Well Nano...your getting profound there, but bottom line is many of us fear the unknown and with good reason, thats why we are still around..if we had the minds of craneflies and blundered into everything without a second thought we'd be extinct from bug poisoning and on hollywood style...and no my fear or phobia more is not based on a giant superimposed spider or ant terrorizing people or swarms of things(im remembering shodan? giant moth ..?) If thats your reasoning then Hollywood is on a gold mine based on irrational terrors. You say not knowing your place in the world wha? ...be more specific, Wheres that from then? yes spiders and all the other things that we fear all have a purpose in the world even a cranefly... Our fear of them means something is working to keep them around and near us..And "stupid fears"? Excuse me...but you just try and tell that to someone with a very real and serious form of phobia *rantrant* etc...and see that your mouth doesnt get burst... they take em very seriously...it can be crippling enough for them to lash out at such a glib remark.
hmph ...and I DONT watch films alot...

It's not the big spiders I'm afraid of, it's the little ones with the venom that makes your tissues rot and die. The ones who's bites are painless, until you notice the big red puffy sores.
And scorpions.
NanoKing on 11/4/2003 at 18:37
to tatum i was not talking bout u.
and those fears are really stupid ones.
cause if people got phobias means they are psichically unstable.
people that live amongst spiders dont fear them.just look at jungle tribes. they just see them as a thing that exists. its real. it can bite IF you will anger it. they are not nothing outstanding. they anger like many peopleif they got disturbed.
but what happens to ppl when they are not wanted in anyplace? others carry then out or just warned of his presense.
spiders, moth, cockroaches, ants etc. is the same- you have many ways of getting him out of your house without killing it.
why kill it when you can live with it? and dont say "oh god but i fear it", your fear is one of the many problems that hurt other people lives.
try to control your emotions.its not easy but you can do that. after that you can control your fears.
when you see a spider dont think that he can BITE!
you must NOT think :" Oh shit what a great spider! He want to rape me, than get me lick him, than kill me,than eat me!!!"
funny isnt it?
at first think about facts:
Fact 1:he can bite me.
Fact2: i dont know if he is poisonous. i must be cautios.
then think about what beuty you find in him. try to find anything you like.
for example:
-Oh! he is so small and cute. ill sit here and look at him. but ill be cautios cause he can bite me.
-He has such a long legs! wow! every wooman will envy it:)
-What a big teeth you have, grandma.
-Hmmm he looks like hungry. ill go see if i can find him something(a little ball of meat maybe)
i dont say you must get him on ur hands and lick him, or kiss him. i just say that you must behave with it as it was your friend you met first time. You dont touch your friends ,do you?
if you have other buisness just carry it in to the garden or something and live him there.
if you Dont want spiders get into your room, close doors and windows and holes.
of course you must be scary of the spider when he crowls on your face, or leg, or body, but that is not reason for killing him. just drop him off and continue playing, working etc.
spiders dont vary from us. sometimes you can see a man and think:" ugh! what a face"
and spider dont have face. he have a head. he just want to live as you do.

Fear isn't rational. Fear is instinctive. Flaying and girlishly screaming reactions to surprise attacks by anything are instinctive too. Phobias are psychological conditions, and while many of those suffering from them know they are just silly, they can't help them.
And those who know no fear (like Goblin) lack other instincts too (like Goblin).
edit: And even if you are wallowing in remorse over the planet-destroying activities of your fellow bipeds, you don't have to consider bugs or spiders equal. Insects are a bit like really complicated clockwork toys. You can't avoid killing bacteria either. They're living creatures too, and think only marginally less than insects do.
(of course I mean no offense if you're a buddhist or something)

Spiders, on average, crawl over your face 6 times per week while you're asleep. And the average person will swallow 10 spiders in their lifetime while snoozing. Just think of it tonight while you're sleeping a big fat hairy spider that's just been sucking the guts out of flys crawling into your mouth and tickling your tonsils till you swallow it. This time tomorrow you'll be digesting it and the disgusting contents of it's stomach
Don't have nightmares.

Mmm, nourishing chitin.

Ok, we left sanity land a long time ago but I persist regardless.
People aren't scared of spiders because they think they will get bitten. The shape of the damn things touches something deep down the R-Complex (or whatever) which screams "WATCH OUT!". This feeling is unpleasant. The concept of 'spider' or 'bite' or even 'kill' doesn't necessarily enter into it.
Sure there's people who are serious phobics and pass out or go well and truly nuts at the sight of the things, but generally it's no big deal.
There are almost no spiders on earth that can be described as beautiful or cute, and all the ones that can are really little. And don't give me none of that "beauty of nature" crap. I'm perfectly comfortable with my dislike of arachnidia (well actually scorpions are ok) and they would be more than happy with the arrangement too, if they were capable of such feelings.
Venroth on 11/4/2003 at 19:04
I don't mind spiders, since I don't live within 5000 miles of a posionous one, but I really cannot stand the sight of earwigs. Harmless as they are, they really freak me out.
NanoKing on 11/4/2003 at 19:15
actually there are a beauty in nature.
silly humans just dont understand it.
JKeats on 11/4/2003 at 19:41
Bloody hell, NanoKing! Of course there's beauty in nature. We (including but not limited to Muzman and myself, both humans last I checked) know that. You won't find a lot of people complaining about butterflies and ladybugs. Just, there's not much beauty in a spider. Maybe you like 'em, but don't scold the rest of us if we find the cute little tykes kinda repulsive.
