Only don't tell me you're innocent. Because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry.

Those are all very well and good, but christ, to not recognize "Make him an offer he can't refuse" as a singularly iconic quote that people use on a regular basis, whether they'd even seen Godfather or not?
It's not even a discussion, hands down.
Something tells me you don't understand the point of the list:
"Great movie quotes become part of our cultural vocabulary."
Ulukai on 2/10/2006 at 17:42
That may be Jean Picker Firstenberg's romantic ideal for the list, but she's kidding herself if she thinks that lot are in the average man on the street's 'cultural vocabulary'.
Or she's just very out of touch.
Rug Burn Junky on 2/10/2006 at 17:46
Where exactly did she say anything about "the average man on the street"?
Ulukai on 2/10/2006 at 17:50
You know damn well she didn't.
I would argue that unless 50% of people stopped in the street knew the phrase regardless of having seen the film or not, then it's not in our cultural vocabulary.
Rug Burn Junky on 2/10/2006 at 18:05
Oh yeah, well, it's certainly reasonable to come up with arbitrary mathematical standards to determine what is a part of the cultural lexicon.
And do you give bonus points if more people know which movie the phrase is from? Or who said it? or what color the script was?
Fucking A. What kind of point are you even trying to make? Obviously this shit is subjective, and not all of them are going to be perfect.
But there are some that are questionable, and others that aren't.
"Make him an offer he can't refuse." is just about as dead solid a part of American culture as you can get for a movie quote.

The point is that subjective or not some of them are so far from perfect it beggars belief. I would go so far as to describe them as hideously obscure turds.

Why are you repeating this again? I couldn't agree more.

If that's true, you need to learn better swear words.
