OK, not really a thumbs down to most of them, I know they are needed to help keep the site up, and they are positioned so as to be as unoffensive as ads can be no problems, and have indeed just given a couple of clicks on one or two just now.
However, there has to be one doesn't there

http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif, well actually two really. Just opened the main page (www.ttlg.com) and got not one but two popups, one of the ordinary window kind, and one that has a box to fill text in (dunno the exact term), but as the point of ads is to make aware and not piss off are these strictly necessary (Again know you don't have too much control over what appears, but surely have some influence as to what type of stuff appears?).
A second point re: ads as well, this site seems to have by far and away the worst record of the things actually loading up, get the box saying so which I have to dismiss, which if I flicking between sites means this doesn't seem to be loading up as the ads load firrst, is it possible that if an ad can't be opened it could just do it quietly

Unfortunately, I don't think we have any say in the actual ad content. We subscribe to an ad service, and they control the content.
I think that's how it goes...
And as far as them not loading up, I'm behind you 100% on that. These things never seem to load for me, and I spend almost half my time around here hitting the Back button to get away from those DNS Failure pages...

By the way... we have some new ad code that needs to be put up on all the sites... new ad types. Those should be delt with.

a question in relation about the finances of ttlg: i once asked (somewhere, somewhen) if it were possible to make donations; i don't know the all-in-all costs but i think 10 USD or more per (willing) member should help a lot ?
i mean something like a sort of an international bank account where everyone could transfer some money to...
i'm not talking about membership fees - pure donations...
well?

Is there any way to trap the error that occurs when the cyberreps banners fail to load, because the Internet Explorer that works with WinsNT, list the ttlg.com site as unavailable, when in fact the only thing thats not available is the ad banner.
(its like the banner loads to full screen for a spiltsecond then it loads the rest of the code and puts the banner in a box) <IMG SRC="shake.gif" border="0">

Like the above posts, I realize that the pop-ups are probably a necessary evil at this point. I'd rather have to pay a monthly fee to use TTLG than see pop-ups, but I realize that not everyone would agree with me.
If you'll permit me, I'd like to throw my 2 cents in on one pop-up issue:
I don't know if you guys actually get to chose the ads, or if they're randomly selected from a group. I noticed that one was for Bonzi Buddy, the Semi-Retarded Purple Ape. I work for a dot.com that used to have an affiliation with Bonzi, and I have answered a LOT of angry emails about Bonzi Buddy. If you do have any control, I would urge you to avoid running that particular ad. The downloadable program is a vicious little plug-in for your browser that will do nasty things to your online experience, up to and including (in some cases) freezing your browser window every time you open it. I've heard complaints that people had to reinstall their browser and do a lot of debugging to get that little sucker out.
... just wanted to get that heard before the jury.
