Nicely done review. I've watched an episode or two of this show before, and he consistently does good work.
But it continues to amaze me how many people remain oblivious to patches and mods, which can improve the experience in older games greatly. Maybe his intent was to simply review the game vanilla, as-is. But later when he recommends how to get the game to run, it was like . . . huh? You don't need to go through all that any more. This was even the case at the time he reviewed SS1, a year ago.
If the countless "Let's Play" videos on Youtube for various games are anything to go by, it's that most people remain clueless in this regard. So many people playing games unpatched and unmodded. A shame, really.

Great review. And as it always happens, whenever I watch a System Shock video I want to play the game again, so I guess it's time to start another run through Citadel Station.

My hats off to the guy that did the review, playing through SS1 with everything on max difficulty and managing to beat the game. Very well done.

He says that he has finished the game several times, so it won't be too hard for him to do that. I've played through the game some 100 times or so (seriously, I'm not exaggerating), and I've finished it with everything maxed out on a few ocasions - when you know the game well, it's easy to decide what you really need to do and what is accessory, so the seven hours are more than enough. The reason I don't do it more often is because it forces you to rush through the game, and I prefer to take my time and appreciate every run through. So I usually play with the difficulty settings on 3-3-3-2 .

I'm with ya D'Arcy. I'm not the speedrun type or the type to make the game impossibly hard. The experience is far more rewarding to me even if I have to sacrifice a little on the challenge of it. I like level 3 on most things except puzzles.

he is definately a pro at the Shock controls. back then I used to play virtually with arrow keys and mouse only :cheeky:

Same here. I consider myself pretty good at SS1 and I still just use the arrow keys and mouse. The movement looked far more fluid in the video.

I think I only used the arrow keys on my first couple of runs. The other controls are way more easy to use.
