I thought I was pretty clear about staying on topic. For the record, everyone is welcome in this forum.
Edit. And on the subject of TDM, thanks to an ultra secret Santa, from tomorrow I'm going to be able to play it for the first time. I sort of wish I wasn't more excited about that than I am about T4.

This is what, in my opinion, an official true Thief sequel would consist of:
- Acquiring the original coding in order to create an up to date dark engine with improved tech
- A team consisting of atleast some of the original LGS staff (Eric & Terri Brosius, Randy Smith, Stephen Russel, Steve Pearsall, etc)
- Mission campaign consisting of atleast 15 medium/large sized levels
- A continuation of Garrett's story after the events of Deadly Shadows
- Follows the same principles of gameplay as its prequels. Clearly set objectives, no killing of NPCs etc and avoid including aspects of gameplay that are "out of place" within the Thief world, such as experience points (good to expand upon gameplay design, as the climbing in games like Mirror's Edge allows for players to be versatile in a way that would work much better than features such as focus and also allow for improved level design)
An "unofficial Thief sequel" that is the closest thing we can get to the true Thief sequel within our power as a team of fans would consist of:
- Using the best resources and improvements to DromEd that we have available and are considered to be "classic", such as v1.19, high res textures etc
- A team of highly dedicated and organised fans who have good DromEd experience
- If possible, consult with ex LGS staff or anything that might contain notes about what LGS wanted to do with a 4th Thief title
- Mission campaign consisting of atleast 15 medium/large sized missions
- A continuation of Garrett's story
Feel free to add anything.

There would be just way too much to make a true to heart next gen Thief. Some artists & writers from the 1800's would also be nice.

What you describe SC sounds a lot like the T2 Gold project, which were official addition OMs to T2 by LGS just before they went under, with official notes on them and everything. We now have these missions in their early stages, and a team of fans started to finish them, but they eventually stopped due to lack of help. But they're still there waiting for someone to finish them.

Oh yeah, i got all the T2G stuff on my pc, and also Deep Cover. Such a shame LGS weren't able to atleast get it done in time. However, I'm totally keen to be a part of that project. Been out of the scene a little with stuff going on in life, but all set to release my mission "Cold Silence" soon and as can be seen from my screenshot threads, I have the skills necessary.

Expecting a new Dark Engine to be based on the originals code is a little unreasonable.
Dark Engine 2 could be written from the ground up or be a modification of another engine. What matters is how it works.

Absolutely, I didn't even realise until now that the source code has been released after googling it. Awesome. Now I have more reason to finish a programming degree :-). Is it really better to just build another from scratch?

Well there might be stuff in DromEd that is useful, conceptually, but the engine is too old to be updated now, isn't it?
