At least in Metal Gear Solid it's excused with the radar.

It can never be 100% realistic. But better 3rd person than 60 degrees FOV.

Better for who? Better for what? And who said 60 degrees?

How does it make a game better just because it's easier to play? Unless your playing some sort of creature that can see in all directions with a periscope sticking out of it's head, it makes no sense.

I noticed something a little interesting. Interpreter Caduca was blind, and so is The Queen of Beggars. Interesting because The Queen of Beggars is the closest thing to a keeper type character I've seen and seems to play a similar role to Artemus.

Or you're playing a character with incredibly keen senses, which include peripheral vision, something that even the widest of FOVs can hardly hope to compensate for.

I prefer 1st because I feel more in control and it's easier to get immersed, you can do things like listen to footsteps where as in 3rd person you'd just see the guy anyways. Not to say 3rd person is bad its just not what I prefer.

There's really no comparison, when you play in first person, you see the game world as if you were actually there. That's essentially what immersion is. Playing in third person is like being a puppeteer, you're controlling an avatar - it's obvious to your brain that it's not you. I don't care how heightened your senses are, you can't see your own ass if you're looking straight ahead.

I don't think that's a fair comparison because a lot of stealth games that use climbing a lot, a lot more than thief, to the point where it's almost platforming (see sly cooper) then third would dominate. However for a game like thief then yeah first.

I've been more immersed by Dark Souls than I ever was with Thief. Your argument is invalid.
