I thought of a movie that might be considered a reboot-sequel: The Incredible Hulk. The opening credits had a montage of scenes that were similar to Ang Lee's The Hulk, but not exactly the same, and then the story picked up where that left off.

I wouldn't be surprised if they involve the Keepers at all. They're a cool faction, and lots can be done with them. But that's the beauty of a reboot, everything that happened to them before doesn't mean a thing or affect what EM chooses to do with them now. No need for a deus ex machina or convoluted scenarios such as suspended animation.

So what's the problem then?
I think that we are dealing with a real wildcard here. I think the plot is totally unpredictable, anything could happen and probably will, but ultimately it'll be a let down because they've altered the continuity so much and the writing is just so awful.
It might play okay though.
Tbh, most plots and writing will disappoint me for a while seeing as the last games I finished were GTAV and The Last of Us.

Has any developer flat-out stated that the Keepers are gone? If not, who's to say that Garret didn't join up with the Keepers and it just isn't mentioned? After all, the original series still had him as a street-thief before one of his victims turned out to be a Keeper.
As for reboot/sequel stuff, I subscribe to the notion that at some early point it was a sequel (Erin, other links, etc.), but they chose to not be beholden to the original continuity so they could have more creative freedom. I suspect that because they're shitty writers, they'd rather not bother checking their additions for inconsistencies and end up being the target of criticism for screwing something up somewhere.

Honestly, who cares what they've said. You expect them to tell us everything?

Haven't you noticed the focus ability? Garrett still has one weird f*&#ing eye
The eye is due to an accident that happens early in the game, apparently.

This desperate holdout to believe that there's congruity between the THIEF Universe and the NuThief Universe, is becoming hilarious...:laff:
The NuThief Universe is not even designed with the same cosmology (universe mechanics), let alone having the correct origin and story consistencies...There won't be any Elemental Planes of existence in the NuThief Universe, unlike the true THIEF Universe...so it's literally a different universe by virtual construction.
Those who foolishly still believe that there will be fundamental congruity between the two separate universes, will be eating crow come February 25th.

I don't think anyone is claiming congruity. No one is saying it's not a reboot, we're just defending the description of it as a "reboot/sequel."

There is no sequel, even in the rebooted form...It would be moronic to make a sequel of something that hasn't any consistency to it...There would be nothing but a handful of superficial ties, at best...which would make for a completely laughable creation/abomination...A few bits and pieces of intellectual assets, from a previous speculative sequel attempt, hasn't the slightest bit of weight to change the reality of this.

I think their strategy is to replace the original franchise (hence why they presumptuously call their reboot "Thief", and not "Thief - something"), whose legacy they don't seem to care for; but they value the overall
Thief concept for gaming, so they're remaking it. This will be confirmed if after this one they decide to make a "Thief 2"
