A) You claim that Splashcups OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T KNOW THIEF AND IS A FRAUD!!! (good job with your Goldmoon impression btw) because of a stupid joke about starving your kid until they finish a Thief level (huh??)
2) Said joke makes direct reference to the opening cutscene of Thief -- proof that Splashcups has at least played Thief. When this is pointed out, your first reaction is to claim OH I TOTALLY GOT THE REFERENCE (no you didn't, or you wouldn't have blown up like this) BUT IT'S NOT REFERRING TO ANYTHING IN GAMEPLAY and when that's pointed out as a stupid reason to blow up because who's going to see the opening cutscene if they're not playing the game, you backpedal because of course you would and claim that SC could have watched it on Youtube or something (and then you follow up by indiscriminately insulting me for pointing it out, so go step on a lego you pompous egomaniac) without considering the question of who would even care enough to watch an LP of a 15-year-old game and then come here and discover the fanbase without backing away slowly. It's not like Splashcups is some brand new member drawn here by news of the new game -- his (or her? I don't want to assume too much) registration date is August 2005. That is a really long time to fake being a Thief fan.

I've been reading on a tablet so I never saw Splashcups' reg date and I've admitted I was wrong about him.
But you've missed the point. Again. The joke included a comment about pickpocketing more keepers which I incorrectly took to mean he didn't know about the game because you cannot pickpocket any keepers in game.
And I never insulted you. I'm sorry you feel that you were insulted.

The funniest moment of neglecting a child for a game would be the part in "The King of Kong" when Steve Weibe is recording his world record attempt and his kid starts yelling out "Dad!!! Wipe my butt. Stop playing Donkey Kong!!". Unfortunately, my joke was nothing like that.

Anyway, in other news - this is only 6 weeks away?! Wow. Feels like time has just flown by. I should do something about that front page before it comes out!
We're all concerned about the reboot and it's two pronged, the characters and plot and whatnot as well as the actual gameplay. I'm planning to do a write up comparing the specific gameplay mechanics with the other Thief games.
Anyone want to do a complimentary bit on the plot, writing, style, atmosphere and themes?

I agree. Now that we're all past the series of shocking revelations about the game (development hell, grimdark characterisation, cheapo attitude with the "reboot", modern gameplay w/ contextual movement and QTEs), it becomes easier to abstract the choice to name it
Thief and perhaps enjoy it for what it is, as you put it. This is why I stopped criticising their choices and comparing them analytically with the previous games altogether: the probability that the game is not going to feel like Thief in any way but superficially is very high, and there is no way it can maintain the kind of lasting impact the original games had.
This doesn't mean, however, that we shouldn't be curious about and even looking forward to it. Well, at least the 'modern' gamers among us. There is a significant part of the fan-base around here that won't play anything but Thief, because the original games came out at a right time for them and nothing else could provide the same kind of involvement. It doesn't take a genius to sense that these people won't find much for them in the new game. Those of us who enjoyed, let's say, Dishonored, might eventually find the new Thief enjoyable as well.
But then again, maybe not.
