I'll post a couple screenshots tomorrow... but it doesn't really affect the banding.
Because the glow or haze created by HDR slightly obscures the edges of each band, the banding looks a little less pronounced in some places, but it's still there.
This may be obvious to some of you, but I assume this is because that aspect of the lighting is compiled into the level and can't be fixed with a renderer-only change... but I could be wrong.

afaik, all the dynamic lighting is just really static with a texture swap (which is extremely clever) , so yes.
the banding isnt real-shadow banding because there are no real realtime light sources, its all just textures
am i right?

Not quite sure what you're asking.
Thief mainly uses pre-calculated lightmaps for the lighting. The granularity of the lightmaps is based on the scale of the textures being used.

thats pretty much what i meant.
now i really wish timeslip would get into this and fix ddfix :erg:
there are a couple graphical glitches in dx9 mode.
not only would this allow more people to play with enb series, it would allow me to take out my old X800 and give me and many other taffers, t
he ability to use a new ati card with ddfix!!!!!!!

What are you talking about?
Timeslip did fix DDFix, by making it no longer use D3D9. I think the chances of him going back to the D3D9 version are close to zero.
Hoever, the source code is available, so people are free to try to rework the D3D9 version for themselves.
What are your problems with DDFix and newer ATI cards again? I only have an older ATI card (an X300 Mobility, which runs DDFix flawlessly), but I know that others in the DDFix thread have reported success with DDFix and newer ATI cards.

With the D3D6 DDFix versions + HD2000/3000/4000 series you have unexplainable performance issues, that should not exist with games as old as these.

it's explainable...
they took out some d3d6 calls and other legacy support when redesigning the architecture after the X1900
i started a thread about it at rage3D
(

and other people are having different problems with old games too, on the newer ati cards:

I'm a fan of ATI and I love my HD 4850, but I was forced to put it my old X800 to play Thief1 :erg:
but of course with ddfix 1.1.1, there's absolutely no problem with the newer ati cards

That's sad considering ATI's good track record recently, with fixing the fog in their newer drivers...
Glad I bought nVIDIA last time. :D
