Gaming websites aren't usually untrustworthy because they give bad marks to good games (thought it happens), but because they give good marks to bad games. If SE tried to prove anything, he failed.
This. There are dozens of examples, but the best ones, from Gamespot:
Thief Deadly Shadows, 8.3 ("Great")
Deus Ex Invisible War, 8.0 ("Great")
And more recently:
Bioshock Infinite, 9.0 ("Editor's Choice")
Tomb Raider, 8.5 ("Great")
It seems like reviews have gotten more and more skewed in the past 5-7 years, probably because gaming has become bigger business and sites are afraid to give bad reviews to companies who pay them thousands for advertising.

I'll probably buy it immediately, unless there's a demo (probably not). I have more forgiving attitude towards stealth games in general, e.g. I finished Velvet Assassin several times, and pretty much enjoyed it, despite its binary gameplay, unfinished story etc. Yet I do hope new Thief will be much better than that.

Thief Deadly Shadows, 8.3 ("Great")
It IS great! Come on man, some of the best NPC dialogue in games, well-done, dedicated light-based stealth with dynamic shadows, absorbing plot, impressive AI that notices doors open when they shouldn't be, extinguished lights, missing loot etc, AMAZING rustmonkey cutscenes. It's not quite up there with the first two, mainly because of the small levels and the annoying movement, but it's an awesome game.

I totally agree with Vivian, and I was just going to say the same. Deadly Shadows may not have been as impressive as T1 and T2 were back in the day, but it was still an awesome game. It must have been the best game that I played that year.
It all depends on how you look at it though. If you can't look past the things that they changed from the previous games and only concentrate on the negative stuff, then you're surely not going to like it. But why spoil all the fun for yourself? I can't say that I've ever been much of a Thief fanatic like some people in here obviously are (of course I loved the games and they're all in my all-time favourites, but I doubt that I'd be here now if I had never had a mission editor to play with), but I would certainly rate Deadly Shadows even higher than 8.3.

Yeah, but...wait, lets not do this.

Oh my goodness! Thank you for posting this! I did not know there was such a project, but have dreamed about it ever since realMyst came out.
One happy consequence of Thief 4 discussion - this Myst/Riven fan discovered the starry expanse project - thanks Brethren!

I'll give Thief Reboot a rental, once I've saved up the money for a PS4, as there are several other next-gen console games that I'm interested in playing beyond Thief. But I don't see myself actually purchasing the game, if the E3 gameplay is anything to go by.

I'm a sceptic. TDS sent me back to the originals and FMs based on the originals to get the bad taste out of my mouth. I'll wait, and as I said earlier, I'll not buy it until I've seen more, and then, probably wait until the price drops or it goes in the 'Bargain Bin'. TDS cured me of buying anything on its first appearance.
Even TDS ended up with a patch, so I'll just wait!

I'd like to answer the second option: I'll definitely buy it even though there are a few things I dislike. However, I'll have to wait and see whether my computer will run the game first, so I can't vote in this poll.
retractingblinds, who is our stealth marketer?
