Thief 3 used the tagline before. I think it's safe to say the tagline was up for grabs.
Still corny as all hell, but they're welcome to use it, more so I think because of its existing association with the franchise.

Things like that puzzle me. It's instantly, almost unanimously disliked. So what's the explanation for why it's in there like it is? How could devs not see that it's bad?
Because they spent so much money on it. I imagine tweaking the hands to react dynamically to a massive number of things, animating it appropriately, etc was a massive investment of time and money and manpower. I think this is gonna end up another Tomb Raider 2013. Millions of sales, even more than the franchise has ever seen and it'll still be a loss. Especially with that ridiculous mo-cap garbage.

As for a lack of factions, it actually make sense when you think of it.
First thing every tyrant in history did was to fight religion. It's entirely plausible than Baron also banned The Order of The Hammer, closed and robbed their churches and killed holy brothers. Perhaps Garrett will stumble upon such deserted church, maybe some old nut, who used to be High Priest, or small house chapels, hidden from the eyes of The Watch?
Don't get me wrong, I'll also miss Hammers since they were the most charismatic of the fractions. But I don't think it'll be much worse than T2 in that respect.
Pagans by design have very little to do in cities, personally I found their hideouts in parks and ruins in T3 riddiculous. But who knows, maybe they will have some business with the rebels. They have some experience, after all.
Maybe it makes sense, but it is still wrong. They could write a story that include factions. Actually, even in this story factions could remain. Game doesn't have to be about them, Hammerites may losy their powers, but we could see them here and there, and believe me it would be the best. Old factions is not an obstacle for new ones.
Agreed, Pagans in TDS are very stupid. They should remain mysterious, hidden, like Keepers. And new Thief will have mysticism rather than magic (which is another bad decision in my opinion) Pagans are suitable for that.

The story of the Keepers pretty much ended in T3, so their absence is justified.
... but we'll also have focus ability, which is quite obviously Keeper's power, plus something suspiciously resembling glyphs plus underground hideout of some mysterious guys who use keys as their symbol.
And considering that focus is said to be an important part of the plot, I think it's safe to assume that once again Garrett will be forced to do Keeper's work, even if we won't see Keepers themselves.
I didn't expect to see Keepers as a faction, yes. But they should be still around. Maybe some of them are observing and keeping diaries, waiting for the return of the glyphs. Some of them are informers (isn't it perfect for the rebels? They are masters of stealth, even without glyphs after all). And what happened to Enforcers? They are perfect assassins, maybe now they are working for Baron.
And as I said, some of them may wait for glyphs. And now we know glyphs are return, they should be gathered somehow. If I were a Keeper and notice something like that, I would definitely go after it.
Yes, Keepers are there, but wouldn't be good If we saw them? Just a little?

EM said they respect previous
Thiefs and will reference old factions, even if don't center game around them; why don't we give them a chance and see what they'll come up with?
EM said that yes, but I don't believe them anymore. References are not quite enough for me.
Why I don't give them a chance?
Because EM is keeping apart almost everything I like about Thief.
-Magic and technology, steampunk.
They said it won't be magic but mysticism. Why for Builder's sake? And I haven't seen any steampunk yet.
-Factions, as I already explained.
-Undeads, ghosts, creatures, haunts.
They said there will be no zombies, No hammerites probably means no haunts. Actually I don't think we will encounter other than human enemies (and maybe animals) and this is soo boring. (but they say it will be a scary level, so I'll wait about that)
-Garrett's voice and character
I am not happy with his new appearance and voice. Even though I can live with it, it shows they vision. Garrett's new look just feels wrong.
And they give us XP Points (WTF?), focus, shroud, dash...
Ouch!
Now we have "A thief named Garrett is stealing stuff in a medieval world." Not a Thief game but a game inspired by Thief.
Probably I will play the game, because it may be a great stealth game and I like stealth games. But I am not expecting a Thief for now. If game turns out a good Thief game, than yay!
Actually I give them a chance. That's why I am still reading news and watching videos. But my expectation is pretty low.
