Who cares indeed. Can't believe this discussion is even necessary.

Who cares that you don't care? Enjoy your life and don't worry about things that don't apply to you.
Hey, Brethren, while there's discussion with people who think it's possible to go into Offline Mode with no Internet to go Online first to turn it off, how 'bout you tell those of us who are chronically unhealthy, under-financed, regionally underdeveloped, and generally under chronic under-privileged circumstances, how we can "evolve" our way in the opposite direction, wiseguy? Next time one of us, and there are many, says we won't be able to play the game, you just realize it's a simple unavoidable fact, not a choice, not stubbornness, not nostalgia, and every other offensive excuse you can come up with that isn't based in any reality outside your own.

Exactly no-one has said that about steam. You are now arguing with yourself. good job.
PS who here doesn't have internet? Excuse the high farce of even asking that.

And achievements do not appy to you. Their presence does not infringe on you in any way. You are having an argument that was tired in 2006. Give up. The Cheevo War ended long ago, and you're late to the battlefield. Go back to bed.

It applies a lot more to me than somebody who
won't be able to play the game. This poll and discussion is pointless because Thief WILL have achievements. This is one of few things that are virtually guaranteed about the game. Also, pursuing achievements is entirely optional and achievements are easily ignored. The achievements you get will be shown in Steam (easy to ignore) and new achievements will probably scroll by on screen after completing a mission (also easy to ignore). That's about it. They're a non issue and nobody here should care.

We've been through this before - you're taking my commentary as a personal attack or criticism, which it's not. PC gaming as a hobby is expensive, and I can sympathize, trust me. But despite your situation, the game devs and publishers don't care about that, they're only interested in making the next great thing. It's always going to be like that, and PC gamers will be forced to spend X amount of dollars every couple of years to stay with the curve.
Bottom line - Internet requirements are here to stay, so you've got to find a way to make it work if you want to keep playing PC games.

heywood, there are a lot of people, regardless of whether they can play or not or why, who aren't wanting achievements in the typical modern sense in Thief, or not wanting those achievements at all, or are hoping for a different or uncommon approach. This thread is not unimportant or unnecessary for them, even though we all know full well achievements aren't going away.

GET OVER IT. THE WHOLE REST OF THE WORLD DID YEARS AGO, TRY TO KEEP UP.

Two pages and no one threw in T1&2's achievements as seen in the statistics? Or is "knock out while airborne" not flashy enough to be taken seriously?

That was kinda floating about in the back of my head. Achievements are only a slight extension of end mission stats. The only difference being that you're informed of them midgame.
...which I can understand being annoyed by, but considering you can turn off any and all notifications, griping about them is entirely a moot point.
