Every day is a challenge for the indignant and picky.

Well, unfortunately for *that* little theory of yours, can I also attach a mouse/keyboard to the console and it least enjoy it like a normal Thief title?
It's not a
theory, it's a
fact. I got X360 at home. You can either put a disc in a tray and play the game right away, although the loading times are a bit slower, so I tend to install games on the HDD anyway. And the old X360 DVD drive is a constant-speed noisy junk ;) But, those models are not in retail anymore, the newer model is smaller, more silent, has less power consumption, has better cooling, etc.
No, you cannot use USB keyboard or mouse for X360, not that the dashboard is designed for it anyway (see windows phone 7/8). I think you can do it for PS3 though.
Edit: every console title, actually every AAA game
must be designed and optimized with possibly the most ergonomic / comfortable controller scheme in mind nowadays, otherwise it won't be certified for release by Microsoft or Sony. You can use X360 controller for a PC version too, but not the other way around (kb&m with X360).

Also, some games, like last two Mass Effect titles, ask you right away if you are willing to send some anonymous gameplay data, so that can be in addition to achievements. This is a bit different from achievements data, so we can get tons of not really useful info later ;)

If it's a multiplatform game, it's going to have achievements. Microsoft requires every game that releases on Xbox have achievements, Sony doesn't require trophies, but they do require 'feature parity with other platforms' for multiplatform games, so unless it's a Playstation exclusive they kind of do require trophies. And if you've got all the achievement flag code set up and you're releasing with Steamworks, you may as well tie in the Steam achievement system, too. Just disable the in-game notifications and pretend they don't exist. Easy peasy.

I don't understand the complaints about having an internet connection - PC gaming has always been about upgrading your machine to play the latest games, whether that be a CD-ROM drive, a little more memory, or a new video card. These days, it's also an internet connection. None of today's games are going to run using that PC that was up to spec back in 2000. Just because you played your favorite game perfectly a decade or so ago does not entitle you to play it the same way in the modern era. It's time to evolve - or just move on.
And it'll be something new, but the same basic idea, when 2025 hits and we look back to today.

One of the requirements of our latest house was that good internet was readily available. My mom has a nice pc but lives in a rural area. She doesn't even get a reliable cell signal. She'd have to move to get other than dial up. I know she's the minority, but there are people who game who don't have access to internet. Online registration sucks for them.

Or make a statement and demand DRM free games, because let's be honest -- that's what requiring an online connection is all about. You don't have to bend over for the publishers/distributors.

Again, missing a "who cares?" option. Y'all need to quit making polls.

I've already had to complain that there is no zombie option. :nono:
