Achievements are in every game that costs more than $20 to make these days, why is it even an issue? Just ignore them.
I want to. Lord knows I
so want to. But my OCD just won't let me.
:(

Why not post in the current achievements thread?
Oups, I saw that this thread had more responses so I assumed it was the main thread. I'll move it now to the current thread ; My apologies

My achievement ideas:
"You sly taffard": You managed to fool the drunk guard to let you get past to the main entrance of X place
"Lucky devil": You succesfully escaped from Y place by parkouring the roofs, after setting fire intentionally
"Make love, not rob": ... well I'm pretty sure you can imagine this one in the brothel

Well, achievement are a good thing to add replay value and have a reason to set a particular challenge while playing, well at least if you don't buy much games or have a lot of spare time. I just started playing Assassin's creed 3, and I am only following the main story (which is a 20+ hour long campagn) and I still got 5 unboxed games
My last completed game was Dishonored and I almost got the ghost and clean hands achievements in my first and probably last playthrough, but because of that God dang Granny rags side-quest bug, at the end of the mission the statistics showed that I killed one person and haven't managed to sneak in a ghost way.
Still, the stealth gameplay was not that nice, especially for taking down guards, civilians and targets with sleep darts, particullarly on the last 3 missions, because the ammo capacity of that kind of darts is unfairly limited to 10, while you can carry a max of 30 pistol and ordinary crossbow ammo.
After this fail I just ended up upgrading lethal weapons, powers and (stealthily and hiding if the alarm triggered) assassinating guards in the last two missions, and I find it f***in' enjoyable, mainly due to the fact that I had to quick charge too many times, and it takes forever on console
Still, It felt good stealing valuable items and money, I missed taffin' around and getting things
In Thief's case, I'm pretty sure that achievements will add replay value and constitute a reason to play it in a hardcore way. I just hope there won't be too many guards and that we will have plenty of alternative ways of getting in the main location and avoid encountering guards patrolling outside
P.S: Why people think and swear that there "can't be" or "won't be" achievement in Thief, when all retail console games and almost all Steam triple A titles do have

There's nothing to apologize about, because this is the main Achievements thread.

Yeah, some passing mod should merge them.

"You have what the thief could not steal ... yet" - Your copy of the game after login for the first time.
"Scrooge" - Not doing any achievements in a mission. A repeatable achievement.
"Mercy" - Play a mission so badly that you skip the rest of the campaign and just lose honorably.
"This mission will self destruct" - Complete a mission with the highest score and unable to replay anymore to beat yourself.
"Faster than you, hah" - Play a mission faster than the devs think you should have.
"Are we there yet?" - Playing a mission so slow that the game wonders if you will ever finish.
"Groundhog day" - Replay the mission before completing the last objective.
"What's next?" - Complete the campaign having never replayed any mission and probably never will.
"Just achievements, no more sneaking, jeez" - Complete the campaign and replay a mission with all danger removed.
"High roller" - The random number generator rolled 100% so you can make that jump.
"Low ball" - The random number generator rolled 1% and should fail your jump but decided to let you win.
"Could be worse" - You lost loot in the chaos but live through the QTE burning bridge press 'x' to win.
"Ready to Crumble" - Start the QTE burning bridge sequence, instead of real sneaking.
"Vertigo" - Start scaling cliffs to water, instead of the QTE burning bridge sequence.
"Peer pressure" - Blend in with the resistance, instead of the QTE burning bridge sequence.

SubJeff, Robert4222 and GD - your posts have been deleted as what they referred to was deleted by the poster. GD - you're starting to sound a bit like a cracked record.

"All that glitters is not gold." Drop an item within a second of picking it up. Bonus points if it alerts a guard. EDIT: Or is it just me that does that?

Didn't see these ones yet:
"Smacky Smacky!": Bash three or more guards in a row, in a period of less than a minute, with your blackjack.
"I Always Equate Feelings With Getting Caught": Do not alert, attack or steal from an NPC that is of the opposite gender.
"Benny-Bashing": Target only the drunken guards.
"That Should Have Killed You": Fall from a great height to the point of having less than the equivalent of three health shields left - twice.
