It was an example how extrinsic motivators change game experience.
He had to play ranked matches, because other people (that were any good) played ranked to get achievements.
And they all told him this?
Of course, there is no way they played ranked matches for the same reason as him is there? Nope.
Regardless, this is about the type of people he was playing with and has no bearing on the game's design. It not related to achievements, except to say that they might provide motivation FOR those other people to play.
Which is counter to you original angle.
Lol.

Still, you rely on this as if it was a Theory of Everything, and you are making mountains out of molehills. You like it, we get it already. Still, the new Thief will get achievements and they will be normal, as with hundreds of other AAA games.
I've done nothing more than to point out the possibility. Notice how I've used copious amounts of terms like "could", "might", "possibly", said that more research is needed, that I'm not talking about absolutes, etc.

Oh for gods sake!
I agree with you, especially the more research needed part, but these guys here will needle it to death until you either give up or give in.

I give up, then.

We're not trying to make you give up, we're trying to make you see sense.

Like I said, give up or give in. There are plenty that agree with where Starker is going with this, but most dont feel the need to try and dominate a message board over it.
SubJeff on 1/4/2013 at 23:28
The difference between you and Starker is he has the ability to discuss and evaluate. You don't.
This isn't about domination, its discussion. If he explains to us why and how we are wrong we'll accept it. I love to learn new things.

Yes, but count how many posts SubEff et al said the same damn thing in an attempt to get this poor guy to cave in. It is sickening.
*You* are the one who doesnt know how to properly debate, as it is traditionally your way or the proverbial highway.
SubJeff on 1/4/2013 at 23:38
I can't help it if I'm more often correct than you. If you want to change that quit talking crap.
If I and others are saying the same thing over and over is it because we're trying to dominate or because we're trying to get a point across or an answer to something that isn't being answered? You're too dumb to work it out anyway.
Starker, it was point 3 that was the step to far. I agree more research might be enlightening, I just think the current model misses the point.

Why are you still posting you dimwit, he already gave up. Good job, again.
