What exactly determines the accuracy of weapons?
In many games, the size of the crosshair indicates the accuracy. Is this the case with Stalker?
See, I found a pistol, the Black Kite - which seems very nice, but it has an accuracy of 1/25. At the same time I found the SIP-t M200, which has an accuracy of 5/25. But the crosshairs on the Black Kite seem to be smaller.
And just how inaccurate is the Black Kite, anyway? Not that I plan on sniping anybody with a pistol. Is it worth the weight?

I'm not sure about the crosshair, but I find the early pistols to be useless against human foes. I'd just use shotgun + cover, does magic early in the game before you get your hands over a rapid fire weapon and decent amounts of ammo.

As far as I can tell, crosshair indicates accuracy. It's a function of movement and base weapon accuracy, doesn't count in bullet drop and all that though.
No pistol is worth the weight. Anything that's not an assault rifle or a sniper should stay at home.

Pistols are your backup weapon in the early game. Aside from that, they are great silent killers in the later parts of the game as the majority can fit silencers. I use my pistol all the time. (Big Ben with silencer)

At what point in the game do silencers that can go on pistols become common? I've got big ben stashed away until I find one, and just making do with the crappy integrated one you get early on for now.

I like it for boars, dogs and Fleshies, one shot between the horns and they are making furrows with their snout,at least for the first two or three, after that I get excited and start blasting. It saves wear and tear on your primary rifle as well.
It also has a nice effect if you can plant one behind a stalkers ear.:sly:
A little off topic, but one effect I like is,when you get a stalker on your iron sights, and make a perfect head shot, they just vanish from view.I'm not a hunter, but I used to go with my dad when I was a boy.He would say "You know you've made a clean kill if the deer seems to disappear".I now know just what he meant.

Duh, I thought the same early in the game, but later I learned to appreciate them, as they helped me a lot in few situations when I ran out of ammo for primary rifle (f.e. in Yantar lab with lack of 5.45s to be found) .
The .45 models are quite powerful. Actually sometimes I use just pistols in close quarters combat for additional challenge and thrill. In open spaces I use them against lesser vermin. Black Kite is exceptionally good, especially with piercing .45s and Big Ben is just marvelous, but it's wise to put it aside for later parts of the game when 9x39 ammo becomes more common.
Pistols are just great and .45 ammo doesn't weight as much as rifle ammo.
I wish though the double-barreled shotgun could fit into pistol slot. Then I think that on my second run I dedicate myself entirely to Russian firearms.

The accuracy rating given in the inventory can be quite misleading. The desert eagle is shown to be horribly inaccurate when in fact it can be very accurate. I think the rating is determined by some combination of the weapons dispersion and the various other values which determine recoil. In the default files, the desert eagle has a fire_dispersion_base value of 0.2 (lower is better) while the sig220 (sip-t) pistol has a value of 0.24 so on your first shot the desert eagle will be the most accurate pistol, followed by the colt 45 (0.22) and then the sig220. The desert eagle, however, boasts the highest cam_dispersion value (how much your aim moves with each shot, the main factor in recoil.) of 6.0, compared to 0.6 for the sig220 or 4.0 for the sawed-off shotgun. As I'm sure you've all noticed, shooting the entire magazine of the deagle as fast as you can pull the trigger leaves you shooting at the sky, while you can do the same with any other pistol and still have a pretty good chance of hitting.
I found pistols very useful in stalker as an alternative to reloading an empty gun, or as a quick unscoped weapon when there isn't time to switch/remove the scope from your primary though that advantage doesn't really apply if you play with crosshairs.
And there is a mod which lets you put the sawed-off and the mp5 in the pistol slot, not sure what you would do with all the pistols then though.

Right from the start if I remember correctly. There's two or three siliencers hidden in a littel metal case on the roof of the old factory just a hair SW of the railway military checkpoint. The roof of the less tall building - the one with a dead body in it. (Getting ready for work atm so cannot double check. Hope I am remembering correctly...).

There's (IIRC) 3 in stashes in agropom so make sure you search all the military guys.
