I've successfully been able to get Thief Gold and System Shock 2 to work with the ddfix, but it hasn't been able to work for Thief 2, ironically. Anything I've tried hasn't worked.
When I do the ddfix patch, the game boots up, but once I start a new game it'll load, and the screen will stop at the end of the loading screen. Previously I was actually able to get the game to render momentarily, but all the colours were warped and it crashed within a few seconds.
So, yeah, I try to start the game, but I can't get farther than the loading screen. DDfix is a no go.
I'm using an ATI HD3850 with the latest Catalyst 8.8, Windows XP SP3.

Have you checked if its still trying to run on multiple cores of your CPU?

I have, it's only using one core.

This is a known issue, see the following threads -

the warped flashing colours are because the resolution in cam.cfg isnt the same as ddfix.ini - fix that and thief should once again be working.
And you may also need to set "UseCompatibleZBuffer=1" in ddfix ini also.

Something I wasn't doing was changing the resolution in cam.cfg, but I've changed it to the same resolution as ddfix.ini, however my problem still persists. At first I was able to get the game to render in warpovision briefly, but now I can't so much get the game out of the loading screen.
It loads all the way, it looks as though it's about to switch to rendering, but it shows the loading screen and the game loses all responsiveness.

Ok, as you have a HD3850, you are ok to downgrade to cat 8.6 as the newer cat 8.8 is mainly focused on the 4800 series card atm - I found that when running 8.6 on a 4870 all of the computability problems disappeared

Ok try the following:-
* delete thief2 and do a fresh install
* then make a copy of that directory eg "thief2-org"
* then ad the line "skip_starting_checks" to 'USER.CFG' file.
Thief should fire up, then install the latest DDfix and pick a resolution etc. Then check the ddfx.in and cam.cfg have the same res values. Then if thief dosent firup or crashes change the line "UseCompatibleZBuffer=0" in ddfix ini from 0 to 1.

Still no good. :erg:

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/9086/setscf2.jpg) Take a look at my ddfix.ini and cam.cfg and make sure I'm getting this right.
Edit: Oh wait, turns out I had Windows 98/NT compatibility in the exe's properties, turning that off seems to make it run. I feel stupid.
