Are there any patches needing to be installed? Any popular fixes and unofficial patches and the likes? Post 'em here! I downloaded the "Deus Ex single-player 1.014 patch". Is this the latest patch?

Er... I think so. I can't think of any really necessary mods or fan-made patches. Just go with the game, and be sure to tell us how it goes :thumb:

Well, there's HDTP which upgrades textures and some models, but I feel like I know the Gunter and Anna models too well to see them change like that. I'd say play it without mods the first time around at least.

Shifter! I would not play this game without Shifter!!
A few people do not like some of the things shifter does to the game, but me personally, I think just about most of it is solid gold.
Basically the game fixes a lot of bugs and oddities that were most probably overlooked in the initial development but were since noticed by the countless hoards of fans like us who have played the game through 20ish times. The other thing the game tries to do is re balance the game a little to make some of the more useless items actually a little more usefull. This generally dosen't make the game a whole lot easier, just funner and more interesting.
But yeah, if you are possibly planning to play the game through more than once I would at least try it without shifter, at least so you can know what you are missing when you play it later. But up to you.

Thanks, hayaku! Now, what on earth is shifter? :p
*edit*
Just read something about this Shifter thing now, and it says that it adds lots of new weapons and fixes alot of stuff. Don't know if I should just play it through just with the latest official patch or installed Shifter aswell!

I never played with Shifter, but I read the README and it looked to me the mod is mostly about making the game easier (which would really mean "boring" for me). Just out of curiousity, are enemies more powerful to compensate for the more powerful weapons and items ?

I don't think so. I haven't used it yet either. Not my style. I don't really think all those changes were for the better. I like DX the way it is, flaws and all.

Wow hey slow down! Don't play Shifter until you've played vanilla DX (preferably multiple times). It might be a good mod, but it doesn't 'fix' a whole lot, it just modified and adds stuff (not stuff overseen by the developers, hayaku), and you could only appreciate the added value once you've played the original Deus Ex.
