For me, the defining moment
was meeting the big wossname on level five for the first time. I was holding a fully upgraded assault rifle loaded with anti-personnel bullets, but when that thing started coming at me, I bravely turned my tail and fled (in a panicky manner). I couldn't play for an hour or so afterwards.
You weren't aware of the fact that the AR is the most powerful weapon in the game?
catbarf on 13/9/2007 at 16:28
Yeah, even a rumbler goes down in just a couple shots.
Just curious, I never noticed this, but do headshots do more damage in the Dark Engine?

In fact I was fully aware it was the most powerful weapon I had encountered this far, but the game had been playing (no pun intended) on my nerves up to the point where my first instinct was to bravely run away. Even Thief, which I played a year or so before SS2, wasn't that bad in comparison. Heh -- I remember taking a week off for both of them so I could play at night and sleep in the day. :)
Sadly, there are no second first playthroughs.

You know what still gets me to this day? The second cutscene (Cs2.avi) where the Rumbler has that girl in the corner and she screams when it charges at her. God, that scene still gives me the creeps.
:wot:

I got nerves made of steel then, on my first runthrough I killed that rumbler with the pistol and shotgun. :p

People have a go at the shotgun's buckshot, but it's friggin lethal at 6 standard. I'm even taking out things that are supposedly resistant to it
ie, midwives
in one shot.

It's a good backup if you run out of ammo for your AR or the AR breaks.
And you've got the ammo, might as well use it.
