I am always amazed to hear stories of how consumers in the US get treated.
Although poor customer service exists in the UK as well, for the most part retailers just honour the warranty without questions. I have never heard of anybody being accused of deliberately breaking something they tried to return (in fact I have heard of some shops that have given a refund for something which was returned without a receipt or any evidence that it was sold by them in the first place, just to avoid unecessary trouble).
True, more times than not if you kick up enough fuss, shops just cave. Same with discounts. Many times have I seen people request to speak to a manager or senior figure, complain about a "minor flaw" and they just get handed a 10% discount.
It's weird, but in the UK people don't tend to feel very comfortable haggling or bargaining for stuff. With large purchases, particularly in small shops where the salesperson actually has some authority, you can get the price down significantly, but people just don't try very often because it seems rude etc.
But then many Britons aren't comfortable kicking up the kind of fuss required for success. Some do and are successful (re. my mother), but many are awkward and too polite. I'm sure American people just complain a whole lot more and are more vocal about it, which has probably led to shops being more suspicious.

Hey thats great. The processor might be a bit lacking for your gaming depending on what you want to play but overall seems great. I stopped using laptops for gaming after I realized how expensive it was to constantly sell and buy new ones to keep up, so I just bought a Dell 710m for my software development on-the-go =)
Good luck with it! I loved my HP laptop for the year or so I had it. Boy that thing was a brick! 17" widescreen = heavy laptop.

I guess you would have got the laptop yesterday then, TNT, good to hear it went well. :thumb:

Oh, hell yeah. The times I've went to Europe and saw how completely different the attitude in some places is, it's phenomenal. It's almost like the Life Of Brian - "You don't want to haggle for it!? What's wrong with it?", whereas over here that just pretty much never happens. Just another British cultural quirk I guess. :weird:

@dracflamloc -- I don't have any overly new games, except for Doom 3, so it'll be fine for gaming right now. It looks like it's going to be more of an issue to get what I have in widescreen, Deus Ex is the only one that had easily found support for widescreen resolutions. :o
It's kind of funny, but I'm pretty sure my old laptop was about the same weight as this new tank of mine, 8 pounds. :laff: It's spread out more, so it might not murder my knees. We'll have to see.
This thing is gorgeous, one hell of a tank, to say the least. It handles Doom 3 quite a bit better than my desktop did, and I'm guessing I'll be taking Deus Ex for a run today, because it's too god damn neat seeing what little I saw of Liberty Island in widescreen. :D
It'll also help to kill time while I wait for my MP3 player to down and upload the remaining 11 gigs worth of data I have. :o
