from a purely practical perspective:
A mother can always give birth to another baby.
A baby can't give birth to another mother.
You don't, as it were, blow up the factory to save the car.
(admittedly does nothing to address the infanticide issue, but hey)

Displacer et al - Is it your womb?
No?
Then mind your own fucking business.
So we're talking about aborting a womb?
Cracks me up that people say "its her body" Its not, its the child's body which is completely separate from the mother. You can justify it all you like but a life is a life. Just because its not outside does not change that fact. They get around a murder charge with a partial birth abortion by pulling the baby out all the way except for the head, that way they can say it was never born. I wonder what happens if it accidentally slips out the rest of the way?
At any rate again I'm not busting anyone's ass and I'm not getting into a pissing match. This has always been, and always will be a no win debate.

Yeah, no. Untill she has that child, it's part of her. It feeds from her, recieves her blood etc.
Christ sake Displacer, could you please understand the fact that A FETUS IS NOT A HUMAN? Untill such a time as it develops a properly-functioning brain it's a friggin' fetus. It's not like it's going to just pop out and say "Scuse me guys I deserve the right to live kay thanks"
Oh yeah, I'd also like to point out to all of you going "HE DESERVED IT ABORTION IS MURDER HURR" that you're saying the bloke deserved to die because HE'S DOING HIS FUCKING JOB.

Drawing parallells?

ie making stuff up. the Nazis were into the idea that genetics controlled social problems. I'm of the opinion social problems perpetuate in certain controllable situations. what you are talking about I'm not sure.

Well I suggest you pick up a good book on anatomy. There is no direct connection between the mother and child. The blood streams are completely separate. The only thing close is the placenta. It is embedded in the uterine wall and gas, waste, and nutrients are passed back and forth through osmotic activity.

The whole "save the child" things is mostly a strawman argument when you're talking about late-term abortion. Most late term abortions involve fetuses with no chance of even surviving more than a few days, in addition to endangering the life of the mother if carried to term. When a raped ten-year old girl is pregnant, you can't sacrifice the mother to save the fetus, no matter how much you might think that's a good idea. Neither will survive bringing the pregnancy to term.

I'm talking about extreme utilitarianism, population control, the notion of superiority of well-birthed people.
"But i'm not it's nothing to do with genetics!"
So what, you and Hitler boarded the same train at different stations, the destination is the same.

Stop being a pedant. The foetus is totally dependent on the mother and that is what it boils down to.
I see you don't dare say what you really think about forcing pregnancy to term eh? No surprises.
