Yeah, I was tired when I wrote that... a few bits came out kind of garbled. Stanley was brash and crude compared to Blanche's faux elegance and practised poise, but yeah, everything started coming out in the end, her mass of nerves and fake demeanour covering a desperate and ugly honest truth about the nature of her survival. The sexual tension between them was practically zero in the scenes preceeding the rape, but then the actress played Blanche in a somewhat obviously unhinged manner so it was hard to take any of her posturing that seriously.
As for a good production, well I guess I'm working on poor evidence there and it'll take seeing the film and/or another production (reading the play too perhaps) before I can speak on that with more qualification.

In a way I suppose it's ideal not to have read a play before you see it performed - that way you can enjoy the production in its own right, however badly or otherwise it interprets the original script.
