V is even more disappointing than Equilibrium was.
You have no soul. They were both fantastic. Shoo. Shoo I say!

I've not seen V, but Equilibrium was a cracking little film.

You know what I feel ripped off about?
I ordered shit on eBay and paid extra money for USPS Priority Shipping. The slug on the other end sends it first class. I wanted it before I took off on a business trip, so I wanted to pay the extra money for speedier service. So I ask the guy for a refund of the difference between USPS Priority and USPS First class, and he never responds to my e-mails via eBay or our direct accounts.
So I flag the guy with negative feedback, because he charged me for a service that he didn't provide. He says since I received it in the time frame I needed, he wasn't going to refund and he left retaliation negative feedback on my account.
This is bullshit that someone can leave negative feedback based on retaliation. I stood up to my end of the bargain by paying in a timely manner. I acted professional when I said I wanted a refund of the extra shipping charges since he didn't use the priority system like I paid for. Never ever buy anything from cellularking.com or eBay ID XMRADIOKING . You'll see his feedback peppered with negative here and there. The only thing that saves him is he is a mass seller and can act like a prick if he wants to because most of the sheep that buy are happy.
Crappy fucking customer service.
StD, your location is too frickin' long. Messes up the nice looking tables Daveh created.

If it took you 13 years to realize there was no point in X-files you fail. I was a fan too, but come on, that was clear after the second season or so.

Err, no it wasn't. It's just that the gunkata was ludicrous and entertaining enough that people forget that the rest of the movie was a useless hodge-podge of dystopian fiction, stealing from Fahrenheit 451, 1984 and Brave New World without managing to meld it into something coherent and memorable. It also helps that it has Christian Bale, who's almost always worth watching.

Right.
But, y'see, the fact that a Hollywood action movie even has the audacity to use Fahrenheit 451, Brand New World and 1984 as its inspiration, hodge-podge or no, surely elevates it above the other 99% of action movies that are inspired by nothing greater than box office takings?
It's like people who criticised the Matrix films for the fact that they touched upon all kinds of philosophical issues without answering any of them adequately - I mean, what, did I miss all these other action movies that dealt with philosophy in a more thorough and complex way, then?

To get back to the topic of children's books: I don't remember reading any that had something else than positive while thought provoking endings. (Okay, one or two dared to have sad endings.) I guess I was just very lucky.
I just finished reading an article about the yearly children and youth books award "Luchs" (by a german newspaper and radio station) and all of the books they nominated had appropiate endings (if revealed in the article).
One story called "Nachts" (At night) is about a boy and his father having a nightly walk as the boy can't sleep. And the father says they can go, but there's nothing happening at night anyway. So they go through the city and the boy sees all wondrous things but the father never. When they finally come home and he brings his son to bed he says: "See, I told you, nothing is happening at night at all."
Maybe you just have to look a bit further to find better books? I haven't read any of the books you named admittedly and I cannot give recommendations because of the language barrier. But there are good childrens books with good endings, that's all I wanted to say.

No, it doesn't. Good movies are distinguished by accomplishment, not by half-hearted ambition.

Ah. Well, I guess you're a harsher critic than I am; I'll give artists some credit for trying to accomplish something, even if they don't achieve.

HA! If you think Lemony Snicketts and other such tales suffer from lack of end-age you should watch just about any anime, read just about any manga and most video games---if there's one thing the Japanese cannot do it's end things. . and they do it twice as bad as we do. :(
I couldn't even begin to list some of them--just know they're similar to the ending of the Pirates of the Caribbean sequel.
As for young adult fiction. . I dunno. . I can't think of many that had satisfying endings especially in fantasy. . .I'm afraid I was and am a complete Lord of the Rings snob and I refuse to read any other fantasy series because after a few unsatisfying tries at some other series', I've decided that no fantasy can ever be as good as lotr. .not even Narnia. :p
(except maybe The Last Unicorn. .)
