Ask my wife what kind of noises came from "up there" while I was going through Strange Bedfellows for the first time. I was screaming like a five year old being attacked by bears. She's on the back deck trying to enjoy a crime novel, a cold beverage and a a relaxing quiet day off!

i like both the green and red spiders myself, the white little spiders are ok

i wish more authors would add peaceful versions of spiders/burricks/etc

the red spiders seem a bit more smart, the green ones are kind of a rush and jump tech on you, and the white ones the swarm tech on you but killed with one hit from anything

For the spiders in Thief The Dark Project...

The animations were good.

The model was also quite well done.

But the sounds... my goodness... the sounds... it makes my skin crawl. Every. Single. Time. To the person who created the sounds for the spider in particular: Kindly... F U sir... you are a genius, a master at your craft, & I cannot picture spiders in any game sounding different... but still... F U for the scaring the bejesus out of me. ;););)

For me it´s the ticking sound they make when they walk.
After playing Thief for over 10 years by now, these sounds have burned themselves deep into my brain. When I hear a similar sound, I always get creeped out.

All the sounds they make are creepy as all hell... but when they haven't "discovered" you yet... the walking sounds are nerve-racking.

lets be honest the bugbeasts are worse then spiders but i happen to like the craybeasts as they seem very smart

yes azaran you are correct the bugbeast/hammer haunt combo would be deadly

there is one fan mission where there is a long hallway and once you use key you have to get to other side before the" hyper fast craybeast" gets you, there is a trick to it, but most people first run die alot :P

When I played Thief back in '99 I wasn't arachnophobic yet, but I was terrified of the zombies and haunts. When I returned to the games in the mid-lateish 2000s I was struggling hard with the spiders because I became arachnophobic between those times, but I wasn't afraid of zombies and haunts anymore. Nowadays I can handle the Thief spiders since I sorta trained myself to handle them unless they've been modded (the one in the FM Endless Rain gave me a fright but luckily 1 gas arrow took it out).

Dark Messiah's spiders are the god damn worst though, they jump at your face like headcrabs from Half Life and are big ass tarantula type dudes.

Also don't like the System Shock 2 spiders even though they are reskinned Thief spiders, they're really nasty looking.
