A question... - by catlord

I just recently got Shadow of Chernobyl, and I'm enjoying it, but... what do Bolts do? I'm trying to figure it out, I know they blow up when they hit an anomalies, and I know I'm going to feel really stupid when everybody answers, but can anybody help me?

That's what they do, yup. Basically if you're not sure how close you can get to one or if you can walk straight ahead, throw a bolt and you'll see (can be dodgy when dealing with the ones that go pop or zap though)

Also, if an anomaly is blocking a narrow passage (like a doorway), you can trigger the anomaly with a bolt and run through before it "resets." This really only works with electros and springboards, although I find that burners are considerably easier to step around when they're already going off.

Is that not because it works with burners too? I'm pretty sure they're fine to run through when they're... shooting liquid fire up from the floor.

Don't they work to distract enemies too? I never really used them for that, but seems like I tried that a time or two. I never used them to trigger anomalies though, haha.

Okay, I thought it might be something like that. Thanks.

The fire does hurt you when they're going off, but 1) it's not that much, and 2) you have be standing right in it--much closer than it takes to initially set them off. I'm also pretty sure that Burn protection only reduces damage after they're already shooting flames out; the initial "poomf" when they go off is Impact or something.

bolt is your friend in dark areas. apart from that since anomalies are easy to see in SOC they only serve good purpose in ClearSky where many are invisible.

They're still useful for pinpointing the location of anomalies in SoC, to navigate the collapsed tunnel between agropom and the garbage for example.
