I've tried to return the chimvardmarium to it's rightful spot in vivic mages guild, but when i return to Ald'rhun to report, she says it has to be EXACTLY where it was before.
i'm playing on the X box so i can't use a patch or what not, but am i doing it wrong? i swear it was on or in the desk, i've tried both. I've even reversed pcikpocketed the lady to return it to her persona (seems to be harder than normally pickpocketing a person)
anyhoo, can anyone help?

I didn't know you could reverse pick pocket... but anyway. I'm pretty sure the book is in that chest in the closet (it's in her room too.) Look for the door, the chest is on the floor.

Really!? My debilitatingly honorable fighter refused the quest because it would have violated his oath to the Mages Guild. I forgot about it for a while, but then some time after settling a little domestic disturbance in Maar Gan I visited Edwinna in Ald'ruhn. She thanked me for dealing with the problem (I inadvertently initiated a later quest of Edwinna's), and the next thing I knew she was asking me to return the book that I previously refused to ‘borrow'. I had only a general idea where it was to be returned, so I spoke with Sirilonwe and she accepted it directly. That also satisfied Edwinna and she acknowledged that I had completed the quest.
You might try it yourself, with equal success, but you might want to read it before you return it if you haven't already. I have yet to find another copy of Chimarvamidium on the island.
Perhaps someone in authority should move this thread to the spoilers' section.

Well thanks to the first reply, i realized that i was stupid. it wasn't in the desk, it was to be returned to the chest in the room next to it.
muhahahaha, now i'll go kill the head thief.
