I have asked players about the "activate teleporter spell" and been told that although you don't have this spell entered in your spell book you can cast this spell by drawing a straight line, and then a square. However looking through similar threads I found that the snake women gives you these 2 runes when she shows you how to activate teleporters.
I did receive 2 runes of her, so I opened my spell book and then pressed f to use the runes. No new runes were added, I had 10 runes, and I still have 10 runes. There are no other runes anywhere. How can I therefore cast activate portal, as I don't want to wait any longer for these 2 runes.

Click on each rune in your spell book to see if you do indeed have both the Mega and Spacium runes. If you have them you can cast the spell. Clicking on the runes also shows you how to draw them.
The game does not check to see if you already have a rune when you add it to your spellbook and will thus let you use a rune you already have. It also does not add runes you already have in your spell book. So, if you already have a rune, Mega for example, and you find another Mega and use it to add it to your spell book, the Mega you just found will go away but the number of runes in your spell book will stay the same.
Better for you to check if you already have any runes you find and if you do sell them to Maria.

Yes I remember in UW2 when the same runes could be found frequently and sold if you already had them.
Thanks for the help, i've figured out that you don't need the runes, as long as you know how to draw them. I don't have either the mega or spacium runes, but someone described how to draw these runes. As a result I tried this spell, and was able to cast activate portal.
On a seperate note could I please trouble you for any information about maps and levels, which is detailed in a new thread entitled "Maps and levels"
