Dragons don't matter none. The important thing is will there be burricks?
(Jj about the dragons, btw.) Yeah, I'd like to know if we'll be seeing burricks in T4 too. Afterall, burricks are neither magical nor mystical, right?

There's an interview where the devs mention something to the effect of, "there were even dinosaur creatures" in the original Thief games when discussing how the Thief4 will be less magical. It was said in a disparaging tone. That aside, I highly doubt burricks would fit the aesthetic they seem to be going for.

So sad. Just another example of how EM really doesn't have much of a clue. Yeah, burricks resembled shrunken-up T-Rexes, but they were a part of the world of Thief. Burrick fights (where wagers were made), burrick steaks, burricks as guard animals. They were much more than just 'dinosaur creatures'.
I loved how some of our FM authors took liberties to give them personalities at times. Like in 'Snobs Pt. 2' (Kudos, Naks! :thumb: <3); the little burrick locked up in one of the guest's bathrooms just happened to love people who wore dark clothing and would follow your Garrett around and even protect him (I used him for protection when I cleaned out the jeweler's shop). It's been awhile since I played that FM, but I think that was the same FM wherein the little burrick also talked like a Hammerite instead of making typical burrick sounds (could've been another FM - can't remember). Absolutely delightful!
Then again, T4 is a reboot. I must make a note to keep reminding myself of that fact on a regular basis.

Coffee in the morning, Arabic roast, freshly ground beans. Two cups, black. Orange and black pekoe blend (Lipton, brewed strong, is fine), with a squeeze of real lemon, and three packets of Stevia. Hot if he's going to be singing, iced if not. As needed, but not after 10PM without a Prilosec.
Wanna see Randy Smith's (

strep throat?
I don't know why these things pop up every time I look for dev interviews about Thief. *shrug*
Still waiting to see if Matt Weisse will do more podcasts even though he's no longer at MIT gaming lab.
AWESOME!! Thanks, jtr! :joke:

you once read something about LGSs inspiration for the eye-loss event
Perhaps it was inspired in part by a previous video game. A game that I had faithfully played upon release. Perhaps its not only the inspired story aspect and the game could also be comprised of other story aspects that were in part inspired from previous games as well. So much of Thief: The Dark Project was inspired from past crpgs that it evolved into an exquisite amalgamation of classic gaming elements.

So... What exactly is Garrett's eye now ? Is it a mech eye, a biomechanical eye, a magic eye, an injured eye that glows (due to a magical wound) or something even weirder ?
I don't mind EM changing the origin of the scar and Garrett's modified eye, but it should make some amount of sence within the story (or backstory) of the new game. I'd have to ask what the point in giving him such an eye would be if he won't have a "eye zoom" feature (I'm not saying there won't be such a thing, but it's possible they'll omit such a feature - or, well, its interlinkedness to the character's damaged eye, in any case).
While iconicity is nice, it doesn't need to be iconicity for iconicity's sake. If EM gave him two healthy eyes and didn't even peep about his special eye, I wouldn't mind. The eye just reflected the character's recent personal history, it didn't "make" the character per se. Yeah, the experience of losing an eye was part of Garrett's gradual transformation as a character, but even in the end, he never completely gave up on his basic personality.

It might even be the Eye.

What Garrett went through at the hands of Viktoria is part of his character arc. When his flesheye fueled The Eye of stone, the blood Pact with the Keepers was moved forward, the prophetic legend of the Trickster was fulfilled, and Garrett's place as The One True Keeper was literally set in stone, and the Keepers saved his life in the next moment (without the Keepers, he would've died an agonizing death right there). The mech-eye brings Garrett, The Eye, the Keepers, the Mechanists, Garrett's loyalty to no one, and the clockwork magitech of that universe all together in one symbol. (It's not accurate to say he didn't have it until Metal Age, unless it's 100% meant in terms of gameplay.)
The vague mention of eye-drops has me wondering if EM saw this and misunderstood what it was:

What's known about the Sentients? Were they placed into the artifacts by the Keepers or did they move into them by their own power? If the Eye somehow managed to transmigrate to Garrett's flesh eye, and Garrett for some reason decided to reclaim it, that could lead to some really freaky gameplay. The idea of the Eye in Garrett's head and Garrett quasi-possessed by it is both disgusting and fascinating.
jtr7 on 1/5/2013 at 10:16
We don't know enough about the Sentients. They seems to have already been sentient before the Keepers made the Pact, since they sealed the deal with the Sentients by sacrificing 5 Keepers, one per Sentient. We also know from TDP/Gold that there are sentient plants and rocks in the natural order of that world, and there are other plants that can lull those to sleep by warming the magic in the air around them. I have no idea how the Jacknall's Paw became sentient, unless it's really the metal cap covering the stump that's sentient. The rest are all composed of significant percentages of metals and metal oxides.
I don't even know how Garrett could get his real eye back without a time-reversal. It was cooked and squished onto the rounded blind "lens" of The Eye, pulled onto it by its prongs. Fluids ran out and it solidified, and we don't know what magic was used to make it all work, and if, like the Glyphs, it can simply be set back to how it once was. We also don't know if Garrett would pop the restored flesheye back in and drink a healing potion to make it reattach or if other magic would be necessary. Not enough is known. With Mechanist tech, and an ability to project signals to it, and the its own ability to interface with the brain, I actually think it's more feasible for Mechanist tech to mess with Garrett's mind, using a version of the signal sent through the Precursor Masks, but I wouldn't want that in an official title.
