How do you kill the Ylsides..they're so damn fast?Cast a slowing spell on them?

Also try life drain, if you are an especially high mage and are bored with fireball. It works quite well. Unfortunately, unlike with most enemies, you cannot get your mana back from their dead bodies by using mana drain.

Another trick you can use if you are a decent mage is several harm spells. It's much more mana efficient than fireball, but you will get hurt badly and the heal spells probably make it less mana effecient overall.
