Some of the Daedric Shrines contain large statuary of what appear to be humanoid men (if there are any women, other than Azura, I haven't yet encountered them) who either were or would be gods. Now some of these characters look like a cross between Brigham Young & Abe Lincoln, sort of 19th century-ish American frontier city types, while others look like a cross between a Japanese Sumo wrestler & a nearly naked Polynesian skullbuster, wearing only a loincloth.
OK. I'm confused. W/o giving the main quest story line away, were these guys on the same team? Factions/splinter groups of a humanoid sect? Totally unrelated? By whom, other than themselves, were they considered gods? That is, who built their shrines?
Just finished the talk-to-3-npc's Vivec Informants quest for Caius Cosades, upon the completion of which he was quite talkative & provided significant AHA! type info re the ploitical machinations of Vvardenfell.
But I still don't get the above described appearance disparity of these characters, something I find quite jarring, unsettling. Maybe it's nothing more than an honest depiction of the northern vs tropical climate garb of these people?
As the story unfolds, will this mystery be explained? TIA.

Those would be Daedra Princes very powerfull immortal beings who live in Oblivion. Azura is one of them, the two you describe are Sheogorath and Mehrunes Dagon. The Dunmer worshiped them in olden days and some still do.
If you wanna learn more I suggest you check this link (

Nazz, TYVM! for the link & for understanding my question.
YES! Those are the the ones I was referring to - Sheogorath and Mehrunes Dagon.
From Oblivion but not oblivious to the continuing shenanigans in Tamriel.
Wish I had more time to read the books in-story but you know how that goes - 60 to 90 minutes play & reload b4 crashing/frezing - so most go unread.
