Are you playing Love Story 1 or 2? It sounds like you are playing #2 but asking in #1 thread.

You don't need to bash any doors down. There is some equipment in the armory at the police station. You will find lockpicks in there as well. The ring is hidden in the police station somewhere. If you frobbed the book in Mosley's office, the ring will be revealed somewhere else. Hint: it's near the rear of the police station.

When you get the lockpicks you will be able to get into the jewelry shop, but there is no need to (if you are playing #2) In Love Story 1 Garrett takes all of the loot from the jewelry shop, and since #2 occurs immediately after #1 there wouldn't be any new jewery yet.

I'm sure this has been addressed, but what opens up when you pull the loose book from Mosley's bookshelf?

I just played this mission. I finished it with 120 loot short. I have one curious question. What does the button in the cradle do?

I'm moving on to part 2 soon. :)

The button in the cradle opens the secret door/armoir in the next room.

I think this is my third runthrough of this FM, and I am stuck again on finding the Gold Rock in the Basement Secret Area.

I know from the previous incarnation that there was something behind a banner and a crawl space under the stairs, but there is nothing there this time around. Where is the secret area?

Sorry.
I was confusing basements. I forgot there is more than one basement room. The one with the secret was the L Shaped room with 2 entrences and numerous "covered" furniture., not the kitchen basement which contained a secret from the previous similar mission.
