A Little T2 Help, Please

I hate to start a new thread on such an old subject, but I searched for hours in old threads and couldn't satisfy my concerns. Here's what I am working with - T2 version 1.18 (XP ready)
- HP Pavilion dv8230us laptop, 32 bit XP sp3, Centrino Duo T2300@ 1.66 ghz, 2 gigs ram, Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 w/512 mb, Native resolution 1440x900. So far so good.

Now, the part(s) I need help/advice with -
- First off, will T2 even run on that video card? I tried an install with og version of T2 on same laptop a year ago, with no luck, after weeks of fooling around the game still was unplayable. The game ran like a slideshow. (It was patched, single core set, ect just couldn't make it work)
-Second, I didn't use Tafferpatch to install then, I will this time, but do I install T2 first to any old directory and then let TP install it in it's correct place?
-Also, I have a Games directory, should I use that or shorten it to C:\Thief2 ?
-Where is the best place for the FM folder?
-Should I use DL or switch to one of the newer programs to run the FM's?
What I am hoping for is to make as clean of an install as possible, the first time around. Thanks in advance for any help, and thanks also to all the people who have answered other peoples questions, normally I find what I need in old threads, but I'm getting older now and need more hand-holding with these newfangled 'lectric gadgets you youngsters seem to take to!

Oops! sorry, posted in the wrong place. I spent hours last night searching for some answers and did not come even close to this. I didn't even realize this area was in the forums. So much for my careful research!

I can't answer your question about the video card but you'll find threads on problem cards in this forum.

I have about 5 different copies of T2 all over the place including C: and C:\Games and they all work and yes, install T2 and let Tafferpatcher do its thing.

I haven't found it matters where I put my fm folder. At the moment, I think DL is preferred for T1, TG and T2 and Garrettloader for T3. There's a new one out and you'll find details in Thief Fan Missions but it may still be in the experimental stage.

It doesn't matter too much, but it is even simpler if you let Tafferpatcher handle everything, including the initial install. See the "HOW TO" section in (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106&p=1965795&viewfull=1#post1965795) this post.

Yes,Thanks so much ffox! Somehow I read step 1 wrong, thought I was to install T2 from discs and then run TP. I had already bookmarked that thread and I would never have noticed that little detail if you hadn't pointed me back to it. Now if only it will get along with my vid card. Funny, T3 specifically states that it will not support that card but it runs fine as well as all the T3 FMs. Will cross my fingers and try it out this weekend. Just have to make up my mind over which FM loader to use!
