Just got this game yesterday, and I'm loving it so far, despite the somewhat quirky interface. However, I've reached a major stumbling point in the game, and I've been over every inch of cave and city without any sign of solution. Perhaps someone here can help me out a little.
And of course, this is chock full of spoilers for anyone who hasn't reached the goblin/troll city. Reader beware.
The troll king, Pog, asks that I retrieve his idol before he'll help dig out the tunnel for the humans, though he gives me no real idea of where to go. The journal suggests the goblin city, but other than the quartermaster, no one wants to seem to talk to me. Now, the goblin king is apparently a big fan of pastries, but he won't let me into his throne room to see him. I found a recipe for goblin pastries in the human city, but there are several key ingredients (primarily sugar) which I have yet to come across in the game.
Offering the king (or rather, his closed door) apple pies garners no response, and the quartermaster just talks about how he wants to be king, then tells me to get lost. What am I doing wrong, and where do I have to go? It's terribly frustrating.

Put wine into the cookie dough that that cook makes for him, there is a note that tells you what this will do to him, then things will really change around the goblin city

D'oh! Thanks kindly, I kept trying to put it in an apple pie, but it wouldn't work.

Just FYI, you actually can add wine to a apple pie if you do it before you bake it; that's how I did this part.

You can add it on the applepie or add i on the dough of the Goblin Cooker

I'm stuck on what to do AFTER you make the goblin king sick, I get into the reservation and there's this red box that I assume has the idol in it, but it's locked and lockpicking skill isn't high enough to pick it open, and there's nothing else I can do.

Fafhrd: That foreman, over in the goblin barracks, was awfully pissed at the King, no? Maybe ransacking his quarters will turn something up. (Speaking of which, the ugly bastage really needs his beauty sleep, doesn't he?)

The red coloring is your detection skill noticing a trap on the box, by the way. If you've been dilligent in scouring the area for supplies, there's a handy workaround for your efforts.
