I have a few items that i would like to enchant, but i dont know how to trap souls, i cant find any high level soul gems that dont already have a sould in them, and would it just be easier to steal good enchanted weapons?
If someone could tell me where some good enchanted weapons (that are stealable) can be found, i would like some good long blades but the only one i have found is the icicle.

IIRC, there's a decent blade on top of a closet or dresser in Balmora; not sure if it's long or short, but if you don't like it you can always sell it. If my memory serves, it's in a guardhouse near the head of the Blades (I forget his name), and I think it's the only guardhouse on that side of the dividing river. I'll double-check when I get home and post if I'm mistaken.

yes it's called the sword of white woe, it's on top of a closet on the upper floor of the eastern guard tower. there's a guard in the room so it's difficult to steal. it's not too bad, i was using it consistently until i found magebane in the place the ashkan sends you to find his ancestor's bow.

*nod* Yeah, the timing can be difficult; I just leapt onto the jugs behind him, snuck up and snagged it. Granted, at low level I had to do that 2 or 3 times before I pulled it off ;)

Hi,
You'll find plenty of soul gems as random loot in smuggler caves when you're of sufficient level. Bonelords occasionally have common or lesser soul gems on then.
To trap souls you need the soul trap spell which can be purchased from one of the mages in Balmora Mage Guild (I think -- could be Caldera or Vivec perhaps). You cast the spell on an alive creature and then slay the creature within 60 seconds (the spell's duration). If you have a sufficiently large soul gem the soul will be captured.
Only creatures and most undead have souls. People, a few (named) undead(*), vampires, and constructs/robots don't have souls. A "Target missed" (or something) message indicated that the creature has no soul to capture.
Tip: If you're low on soul gems capture:
golden saints in grand soul gems;
ogrims in greater soul gems;
flame atronachs in common soul gems;
bull netches in lesser soul gems; and
skeletons, skeleton warriors, kwama warriors, or shalk in petty soul gems.

(*) bit odd really. The Wraith of Sul-Senipul has a soul but the Worm Lord does not.
