Well I’m level 5 now and I’m equipped with a full suit of chitin armour, a glass dagger, the healing ring, and exquisite robes, amulet, ring, shirt, and pants.
I also have 2 grand soul gems (one with a winged twilight soul) and a couple of other soul stones including a greater with an ogrim soul. I also have an ebony war axe, a nice health sucking magical sword (the white sword?) and various magical throwing stars etc. I also have some other stuff like a grand master's pestle and morta.
The enchanter at the Telvani canton in vivec will sell me a scroll of 'tranasa's spelltrap' (reflect 20 to 60% for 30 secs on self) if i want it but i'm not sure whether it'll be effective... any thoughts?
IF i can find the spell 'silence' i thought i could enchant my glass dagger with it so i can stop him casting his spells but i'm afraid that's a big 'IF'.
I was thinking of trying to assassinate the elf when i hit level 7 with the help of a spell / scroll / enchantment.
A couple of questions on an unrelated subject -
1. What are those black spider type creatures which some mages wear on their chests? What do they do? Where can i get one?
2. Why have SOME ordinators started saying "what words do you have for me citizen" rather than the usual "I'm watching you, SCUM"? Is it because i've started to wear fancy (and expensive) clothes?
Thanks

1) I think they're amulets; one of these days I'm gonna save and then taunt/slaughter one to see.
2) Have you joined a House? If you have, then the ones in that house's canton will like you better. Clothes and other things may also factor in, but I know the House afilliation plays a major role.

Well i've explored all over Vivec now (excluding the under works ;) ) and to be honest i got a little bored so at level 6 i walked into the Elven Nations corner club pulled out my newly stolen crossbow from behind my robes and shot the annoying wizard to peices.
I handed in my writ to the guard and went on my way (making sure i went back for all the stolen stuff i'd left in the club).
The crossbow is quite good isn't it...?
Any way once i got back to the morag tong HQ and reported my success i was looking forward to spending some of my money of the various services on offer - how wrong i was :nono: .
The people tell me i'm not high enough within the organisation for them to avail me with their services!
I've agreed to assassinate Toris Saren in the redoran canton - hopefully i'll get some respect after that.
Has anyone any tips?
Thanks

My advice is just play the game. Your level is still very low for what you have done so your character will probably be weak in fights. I had my first archer at level 12 without trying very hard and I hadn't even done any quests yet. I would tell newbs to take some time to build up your levels and skills. You need the extra health and magic to fight and the strength to carry any treasure. Start off exploring the west coast and earn money and fight to build your level and skills. If you get your thief skills up (sneak, and security) you will be able to loot just about anyone and then you can sell the stuff back to other merchants and train your skills. It took me a good two hours just to loot Ald run! (however you spell it) I must have made about 10,000 at least and I used the loot to raise my enchant, security, sneak, and (whatever the heck you call that charisma skill) to really good levels. Now people like me and I can break in to just about anything, steal just about anything, and enchant to make myself some kick-arse items. Who needs to pay for enchantment?

Well soon after that last post i decided to re-start my character so I'm only level 5 now. Strangely I've progressed further within the Morag Tong with this character than i did with the last and all at a lower level.
I've decided after the writ to kill the two Telvanni mages that I should put my Morag Tong career on hold because at level 5 I'm beginning to realise that I'm getting out of my league.
I did recently visit Ald-ruhn briefly to steal some glass armour from the fighters guild but mainly I've been in Vivec. My latest exploit is stealing the key to the Redoran vault and using it to steal loads of dwarven, ebony, and glass artefacts not to mention a fair bit of gold. It annoys me I can't get into most of the crates though because my security skill is quite low (min skill).
With all these fancy weapons i have loads of money to buy training BUT i can't find anyone who will give me a decent price for the weapons  . The looted goods have just become dust collectors in the spymaster's house in Balmora.
I do the mini quests every so often in Vivec but the 100 gold rewards doesn't always seem worth it...
