Ok i bought morrowind yesterday and after creating my dark elf assassin i've managed to progress to the stage where i'm ready to start making some major decisions.
I'm currently in Balmora and have both delivered the 'package' to my spy master and investigated the towns buildings.
The spy master guy (i forget his name) said that it would be a good idea to join a guild and establish myself within the organisation to improve my skills (and wealth).
Being an assassin i'm not really interested in joining the mage or warriors guilds but the 'Morag Tong' (assassin guild) i found in Balmora appeals to me and seems far more appropriate.
Unfortunately i found out i'm going to have to search out the grand master of the Morag Tong Eno Hlaalu before i can join and he's in Vivec.
Being a n00b i'm not sure what i'm doing and as such i'm unsure whether there are places in morrowind a very low level character should avoid.
Is the city of Vivec somewhere i should leave until i'm more experienced?
Is my quest to join the morag tong to much for a low level character to handel? If so where should i go?
I know i'm running the risk of comments like 'part of the thrill of morrowind is not knowing what your doing or whether you'll succeed' but i feel completely lost and need a little help to get me on my way.
Thanks

Vivec is southern/middle, you can take a siltstrider there from Seyda Neen.
Enu Hlaalu is in the Arena canton. Go to middle waistworks, then canal area, then storage area, then there's a trapdoor, go in the trapdoor. Enu Hlaalu is there.

Hi,
Join the fighters guild anyway. To get to Vivec safely use the teleport in the basement of the Balmora Mage Guild.

When you explore Vivec be carefull in the sewers (or whatever those low places are called). But most of the place is really safe. It's a city after all, where common people live. :)

I'm only level 3 and have3 only traveled byfoot, today just gtting to Ald'Run, I fnd the game more please if I take my timeseeing where the road taks me explore a little, commi some crime then flee to the next local, I don't have any real goals or spirations, just a really exploring, though i think I shouldn't of ababndne my fellow fighters guild members.
My adice is even if you never d their missions, join the thieves and mages guild anywas for the transportation ad bounty services... but I didn't cause I'd be out of the guild to fast since Ihae tendency of slaughtering theives since they have the best moneymaking stuff, them and clothing stoes, caus they're week ad are filthy sellable goods.
You can get to all the major town retty safley, and even on fot doesn't get that danerous, if you have appropriate weapon and armor, or no armor if you major in unarmored. An enchanted weapons make life real easy. Using you major and minorskills will make life easy, if you want to be anti-class like I was and go us you misc. skills, yo'll fin the game very dfficult for long time till you thse slowly enhancing misc. skills catch up ad the fact you won't level up like hat makes it muchharer too, but if you want a challenge, tht's about as challengeing as it gets, in t his game anyways. Since you an assasin, might as well as head to caldera when you level two nd pillagesome of the commoners, I made like 3k off of it.

I found a locked, trapped door in the storage area under the arena (killed a rat there, found a lock pick in one of the side rooms). Picked the lock, pushed open the door...and was blown up (several times). Is this the door leading to Eno Hlaalu? Any advice on how not to get blown up? (Ok...admitting it...not a rpg expert). TIA

Hi
Thanks for the advice guys I’ll go to vivec today via a guild guide and try to search out Mr Eno Hlaalu - I’ll get back to you all when (if) i manage it.
During my stay at Balmora I’ve managed to get my self a whole suit of chitin armour, shield, a nice silver short sword, a magic sword from one of the watch towers and some other stuff.
I even managed to steal a grand masters pestle and mortar and a grand soul gem worth 60,000 with a saint's soul (?) in it. I presume these items will be useful later on in the game - any idea what kind of enchantment I should use the grand soul gem for?
Thanks again.

Yes that's the place. You have to untrap the doorwith a probe, in the same way as you unlock a door with a lockpick.

Ok i've found the trap door but it has a lock on it with a rating of 50 and it says my journyman's pick isn't good enough to pick it. :(
Does anyone know where i can find a pick good enough to get through this lock?
[sigh] I knew it wasn't going to be as easy as it sounded ;)

Incidentally, I'd be interested to know where you found that gem...
