Seems to be a long term project.

Yes it is. I have no time to sleep nor eat. It is very fatiguing my friend. dethtoll is prolific and in all rooms at all times, so you can see that it would be extraordinarily taxing to keep up with him.

Dammit has another thread disappeared?! GBM had this really cool\creepy Huckabee pic up and i was interested in how it fucked with our sense of face-recognition.

IT RETURNS IN YOUR NIGHTMARES
Inline Image:
http://www.uelekevu.com/huckabane.jpgAnd unfortunately it would seem that les disparus have been flat-out deleted. I cannot retrieve them, and we shall now feel sadness. And maybe anger. But mostly irritation. Some Gold Bond Medicated Powder should help, though.
Also one of the major factors in the face-recog thing is that none of the facial features are correctly placed. Even the ears are stretched to ensure reasonably seamless fitting of eyes eyes nose mouth mouth. Most of what's going on is that, because the eyes (for instance) are absolutely identical but slightly above and below where they
should go, your brain immediately blames your visual-field disparity and accused your eyes of not being focussed at the right distance. "Nay!" say the eyes, "you cannot blame us! Behold the mouth as well, and the nose! These are too many things to be simply our fault--you, our trusted and imperious Brain, must have dropped the ball somewhere..."
To which Brain, in its infallibility (bolstered by veritable armies of defense mechanisms) says "What? Unpossible! Let's not look at this anymore. It's clearly fucked up and how dare you blame me?"
I'm sure there's more to it, but that's the basic start.

It's interesting, after initial crazyness and eye-jumping disorientation, I actually managed to relax and look at the picture for what it is after a minute, and see it as a weirdly featured 4 eyed monster, but it is quite difficult to overcome that WHAT IS GOING ON reaction the eyes seem to have a first.

IT RETURNS IN MY NIGHTMARES and i am both thrilled and terrified at the same time. I'm pretty sure i'm going to leave a light on when i go to bed tonite in case the unHuckabee comes to sing an eerie lament from his dual mouths.

Right yeah. It's like the brain has already decided "this is a normal face" so the screwyness must come from the eyes not focussing right, and argh my head ensues.
Gingerbread Man on 17/5/2009 at 19:59
Also confounding things is that, if this was a case of eyes not focussed properly, your brain knows that your head is oriented normally / vertically. This is usually par for the course, except that if the eyes are totally disparate like that then (since the disparity is on a vertical plane) your head would have to be horizontal to account for this particular orientation of visual SNAFU.
This drags proprioceptive systems into the mix, and they aren't happy about being called liars, either.

AHAHAHAHA I AM GOD
I AM THE ALL-SEEING EYE
BEHOLD THE END OF THE WORLD
Chimpy Chompy on 17/5/2009 at 21:43
I tried turning my head horizontal and it winked at me. :(
Kolya on 17/5/2009 at 22:43
Did you really have to explain it? I thought it was a cool little mindfuck. Now I'm asking myself whether I can bring up the nerve to wiki "proprioceptive".
THE MAGIC IS GONE.
