"Lush minimalism" is a hard line to toe.
(Ultima V FTW!)

It's 100% valid for GD to talk about it and to be cynical about an attempt to make a 'Thief' game that's coming from such a different place in space/time.
And, Subjective Effect, as you very well know, I promised you in our little Twilite Zone Forum chat that I would not bait the uneducated gamers because of this anymore. I have adhered. Yet, dethtoll and now you, come out of the blue and swing your brand of internet one uppery. This has nothing to do with me whatsoever in any way shape or form. I hope you remember our chat, because we certainly do. If the truce is off, does that mean that I am once again free to roam around talking like a Hammerite?! I sure hope so, because all this seriousness doesnt work to well for me.... I wish jtr was here, he would know what to do. :sly:

Have a mental breakdown?
(p.s. calling them "uneducated" gamers
is baiting)
(p.p.s. Btw, it should be "were", since you're using the hypothetical. "I wish jtr were here"..."I wish I were an Oscar Meyer wiener"..."I wish Queue were dead". See how it works?
I tell ya, folks, the grammatically uneducated really drive me nuts.)

Hmm, let's see...
The guards in U7 and TDP wear similar(ish) armor.
You can eat stuff that you may find lying around.
There are bows and swords in both games.
You can
steal stuff in both games.
Ooooh, and there's a stupid little boy called (
http://wiki.ultimacodex.com/wiki/Garritt) Garritt who's a thief in U7.
You forgot Lord Bafford/Lord British (Its a throne room, how pretentious can you get, yes Garriott actually has a "throne room" in his castle/home) and the whole Constantines Mansion tribute to Richard Garriotts lifestyle (he indeed collects rare items including skrunken skulls)/castle-home replete with dungeon. "I guess if youre rich enough, you can build any sort of madhouse to live in". Looking Glass were close with Lord British in the early part of their career, and he taught them everything about game design which translates into the "you are a Thief not a murderer". Hell, I always looked at The Dark Project as the LGS game that tried to put the final nail in the Ultima, Might Magic, Wizardry coffin. And in a way, it worked didnt it... It certainly heralded the end of the golden age of crpg, that it was a huge part of itself. Thats what you dont understand. Yes, those are the many "tributes" to Ultima. Now take the time to discover the references and bits about MM and Wiz... :-Y Just like Ultima, so are Might and Magic and Wizardry by default also ingrained into LGS games. :) Enjoy. Again.

You know what drives me nuts? People that dont go that extra mile to make their illustrious points.

Lush world, minimal UI. I'm okay with the world being rich with stuff, but not the game's intrusion into it.
