Stay in the lines. Do not step outside the lines.
I know we go off on tangents up in here but the moderation is far beyond what it used to be and tbh it's a little stifling. I'd rather be told on PM by mods to tone it down than to be censored.
After all Snowden has down too.

Interesting that someone can repeatedly tell me that I belong in a mental ward because I often "speak like a Hammerite" on a Thief message board, yet I get deleted for saying that person is a legend in his own mind. Coupled with the fact that he started it and starts it out of the blue every time is also noteworthy. Oh well, thats the way the world works. People in "power" often regret it after they are done... Ever since Ginger slowly let control go, it has been a downhill slide ever since. Noone has the balls anymore to end *everyone* in their tracks. Delete Goldmoon, the path of least resistance. Honorable. The mods are prolly intimidated by people like dethtoll, who have no lives outside of their computers. It matters little to me now... Thief is almost upon you lot. I just cant wait to hear what a classic masterpiece it turned out to be.

I don't come into this forum very often, it's not my usual turf. But I happened by and saw the state of things and felt the need to offer some response and an observation or two.
I see a fair amount of complaining about the mods controlling content in this forum. That's OK. You're free to complain. But I'd like to offer a little perspective. First, here is a section from the TTLG Board Forum Rules that every member explicitly agrees to when they register:
No Abusive Behaviour.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this Forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, abusive, hateful, harassing, obscene, sexually explicit, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. Hate speech is not tolerated. We will not tolerate abuse upon another member.
Many people seem to think the mods are (or at least, have become) too censor-happy, when in fact, given that forum rule, the mods are generally pretty relaxed about the majority of this stuff. In truth, we could come down much, much harder in enforcing this rule. And we probably should in some cases. But we take the ramifications of that seriously. We spend more time than you might imagine discussing how we moderate and a great deal is directed at ways to NOT curtail free speech. We really, really do not want to be "thought police".
And truthfully, I think we do a pretty good job of not being heavy-handed. But there are a few places on the board that are more sensitive than others and the Thief fora are the main one. We tolerate a lot of, well ... crap, from members in most places but we won't tolerate it in the Thief fora. That said, we are more relaxed about it here than we are in the Fan Missions forum, for example. But there are lots of places on this board that people can go to and vent their feelings more openly.
And in regards to your post, GMD, I suspect that it wasn't deleted because you said that a person is "a legend in his own mind". I think it was deleted because the discussion had just finally returned to the thread topic and that post derailed it again. I can't comment on who has been censored/deleted more or why, since, as I said, I don't usually frequent this forum and don't know the history. But please believe me when I say that none of us are intimidated by dethtoll, or any other forum member, in the slightest. The mods will gladly dispense even-handed justice all around and if we're not, we encourage you to call us on it. By all means.

@SubjEff, For the most part you guys are getting back on track fine on your own and don't need moderation. I like public notices just because they're generic and apply to everybody without anyone being on the spot, but I'd use PMs too if it's better to just mention it to one person & not make a deal of it in the thread. For this thread, because this thread has such a specific topic I thought it has a better reason to give a little "stay on topic" generic comment when things go way out there or an old OT line gets necro'd, more than say one that's just canvassing general opinions. I'm aware there's a balance between keeping a thread on topic & people feeling stifled in what they want to say.
@Goldmoon, I'll PM you about your case. Edit: Didn't see the previous comment, but yes, deleting your comment was only because it was a kind of necromancy of a spat over a day or so old that had already settled that I didn't want to see flare up again, not because it was worse or a path of least resistance, in combination with it repeating the gist (and some verbatim) from a post you'd made before on basically the same kind of post.

In that case, then please act your age.
I suggested several posts back that all this ridiculousness be taken over to Comm Chat, so this thread could be kept on track with a little bit of dignity. If you want to continue acting like a petulant child (especially toward the mods) then take me up on the offer.

So, back on track: Has any of the reviews caused anyone here to change their previous opinions? If so, which review did it?
I'm still on the fence...but am quite a bit more interested.

Queue, I have absolutely no idea what you are going on about. I see you all puffed up about taking me to Comm, like oh wow Im so scared. I was in Commchat before you even knew what Thief, Looking Glass, or Ultima or anything was. I am most certainly not acting like a child. You are lumping me in with something else and are on some strange bandwagon around here lately. Its not MY fault that Thief is sliding down the shithill, I merely pointed it out early, along with a number of other people that have been run off. lol The ironic thing is that Comm got its reputation from the early days, because everyone was so witty and focused that it became a sharp environment. A far cry from the degraded state it is in today. lolol

I have tried really hard to stay on the fence about the game with the intention of letting previews and reviews make my decision. While I am considerably leaning toward not buying this game altogether, the previews have not done a lot to help me one way or the other. There are a few things that are universally liked, and a few that are universally disliked, but I feel like there are a lot of things that reviewers disagree on. Some love the stealth. Some think its sorely lacking. Some like the missions and city hub, others don't at all. The discrepancy between the most glowing preview, and the most negative one seems quite large. Anyone agree?
