I expect more from the Fins.
Even Brethren, saviour of posters, beacon of niceness, hater of ad hominems, won't defend you on that point Platinum.

I don't really get why you're comparing Doom's lack of jumping to Thief's. Doom is an old game and even then you run so fast you can cross gaps this way and level designers use this to their advantage, and there were no pre-defined areas where you could jump on objects meaning that you didn't have to worry about the possibility of being able to jump or not in the first place. I've read articles about Thief where journos didn't know if they were able to jump on some scenery; some of it can be jumped on and other stuff they thought they could jump on were inaccessible. And even then Ultima Underworld had jumping in 1992 and I remember being a bit frustrated at first when I saw I couldn't jump in Doom.

As I said, I expect more from you. You don't give me what I expect, so I won't give you what you expect either. You are wrong, because I say so, because I am wrong, because you say so. We've been through this already.

@NuEffect: Did you really see the need to drag this DLC thing from the Preorder thread to something completely unrelated though?

I regards to your larger point, I agree that it's possible to be unnecessarily nasty and personal and as a general rule I think you should challenge the opinion, not the man. But there are some people the spew enough nonsense as to become deserving of ad hominem attacks.
I don't agree. I mean, maybe I've done it before, but I just don't think insults are ever necessary unless someone is being offensive or callous. People here have been talking about expectations a lot here lately ("I expect more from you"). How? I don't really expect anything from anyone here. I don't know any of you really all that well, and vise versa.

And as to your "retard" complaint - that has to be the stupidest thing I've ever seen you post, by a country mile.
I don't know how it is where you live, but here in the U.S., it's offensive. It's socially unacceptable, and in the same category as using the word "nigger." People (usually celebrities) who have used it in public are blasted. You can read up on it (

Jumping -
The reason the Doom argument didn't make sense to me is because you never could jump in Doom. The levels are designed with that in mind, so you don't need it. Now along come the devs for New Thief (including b1skit) and they argue you don't need free jumping in the new Thief game either, because wherever you need to jump, you can, the game does it automatically for you. But after reading all the previews recently, we know that's not true - people weren't sure what was "jumpable" and wasn't, and as a result are running into things and getting frustrated. How does this even happen on a design level, let alone past all the gameplay testing? It's kind of incredible when you think about it.
The thing I just can't fathom on jumping is - what possible gain or strategy is there in removing it? It seems like such a basic function of any first person game (and especially Thief). You could argue that, being a AAA game, they want to control the player and make the game all fine-tuned and perfect so the player never goes where they aren't supposed to. But blockbuster games like Skyrim, New Vegas, Bioshock, Metro, etc., they all have it. They're not having these issues. Even DXHR from the same studio has it. So why on earth did they take it out? I haven't heard a logical argument backing it up yet. It's ridiculous, and judging from the previews it's really going to piss people off. Part of me says it's just lazy level design on the part of the devs, but wouldn't it actually be
more work to pick and choose every spot the player can jump as opposed to just letting them do it freely? This thing is just a huge head scratcher for me, but maybe I'm just not seeing something.

That is one of the stupidest things ever to come out of the USA, and that's saying something. I live in the UK btw.
It's one thing to call someone a retard in an inappropriate way and quite another to use it as a word to accurately describe something. What next? We can't use the word "black". "Hey Jim, pass me the screwdriver. No, the NOT ORANGE ONE".
It's a compleeeeeeetely different word to nigger, which is totally loaded with all sorts of history and connotation.
This is EXACTLY like people being offended at being called obese when they weight 750kg.

Hey there Master Taffer o/

Am I to assume you're calling me a liar then?

I'm not calling you anything. You said one thing and the previews say something else.
