It hasnt been said what the circumstances are that lead up to the action sequence, but realistic or not, I agree that it undermines a stealth play style. If you value not being seen, having the game force it on you is frustrating. You can justify it in any number of ways that are realistic, but its a game. Forcing action on a player who chose to specifically avoid it takes away from their control. It takes away from the fun.
I want to add that it matters how this is done. Ending a mission with an action sequence would be frustrating for me because it ties directly with what I just did. However, as an entirely separate part of the plot (introduced in something like a cutscene ie: Ambush), its more acceptable. In the case of Ambush, the situation in the bar does not undermine the fact that Garrett earlier ghosted a City Watch station.

but are you saying that it's absolutely impossible that Garrett gets caught? We know that there are scripted sequences in the game, so what if there is a scripted sequence where the guards burst into the room where the treasure is kept and spot Garrett? That doesn't sound impossible at all to me, it actually sounds quite... uh... realistic?
Not realistic. A ghosting thief does not put obvious furniture in front of guards opening the door. Another thief that may have blocked the door found a way out without alerting dogs, guards and ballistic missile launchers. A master thief plans his escape with stealth ahead of time but the game decides that the player is too stupid to? A master thief has 5 seconds as the guards break in but is not enough time to escape with something more stealthy?
Even TDS helped make Pavelock prison optional and impossible that Garrett gets caught automatically. The ghosting player falls for a mistake and not a scripted event.

Seriously though, I don't hear many others bitch about this, so it's probably just me. Or maybe people don't care much, or maybe they just figure it's dethtoll being dethtoll. But then I see him go off on a guy like Slyfoxx, who strikes me as a really good guy, and I really have to shake my head.
There's a handy ignore feature. Why bother wasting your time on people who have little else to offer besides insults? They're not even particularly good or funny insults.

The sheer number of previews released recently is getting overwhelming - I'm starting to see them on sites I've never even heard of before. This one's a pretty decent writeup of a journalist's first-hand experience playing the first 3 levels of the game.

Part of the challenge of getting away was due to some inconsistency in the environmental design. Garrett can't jump, but he can climb and sometimes leap over obstacles. Just not all of them, and figuring out what can and can't be traversed didn't prove to be quite as intuitive as I'd have liked. Sure, Eidos Montreal has marked out the more obvious places Garrett can climb or leap over, but I often came across crates or debris that looked like I could climb from a purely logical standpoint, but which proved to be no more than set dressing. While this is quite minor when I was sneaking around, when I was being chased by guards and my flight was stopped dead because I hit a bit of level that I couldn't climb or jump over, it was a tad annoying.
I think the toughest thing to swallow about the new game will be the exclusion of free jumping. You really have to shake your head at all the devs who've been saying all along "but you can jump wherever and whenever you need to!" and then you read an excerpt like the one above (and several other similar ones) and realize it's pretty much all BS.

That right there is absolutely my biggest problem with the game, too.

That's cute, but meaningless coming from the person who put me on ignore because (

Do any of the reviews have a video review of the PC controls? as all the ones I've seen thus far are for the consoles.

Yeah, it still baffles me why they thought it was good to remove jumping. Jumping has been a big part of games for a very long time. And while we are on the subject, there was an interesting article on jumping over at Polygon. Been pointed out in that article that jumping helps you to feel a connection with the gameworld (or something like that, they go into the psychological implications and whatnot about jumping.)
Taking it out just takes away from the experience, as was just pointed out in that excerpt from the article you posted Brethren.

Oh dear god WTF would they want to do that, I absolutely hate it when they do that in games...
