In the case of Ion Storm's version of UE2, it's rather justified given how long it takes just to load a sardine can of a map. If you accidentally trigger a map transition, you should be able to cancel it so that you don't waste 5 minutes just loading the next map and then the previous one.
I wasn't talking about Ion Storm's game though, I meant NewThief. But yeah, you've got a point there.
@cyrosis:
Well, I guess those are technically QTEs, but when I think of QTEs I mainly think of the ones where if you fail you get penalized. That is, you die or get hurt. Just mashing a button to open something, while bad, is not as big a deal. Still though, that is rather lame. :(

I agree it's not as bad as over the top interactive cut scenes that are typical of QTE's, but it's rather silly of them to make a public announcement about scrapping QTE's, and yet they keep this in the game. I suppose they are attempting to mask the load zones by occupying the player with needless button mashing. Of course I already knocked them for honesty earlier in this thread, so I'll leave it at that.
:Edit: Thanks for the taking the time answering questions, really appreciated.

It is a sign that they aren't too in tune with the Thief community, which itself is a bad sign.
No, it really isn't. Knowing what makes Thief a good game, and being in tune with the Thief community, are two different things. One is the mark of a good developer, the other is the mark of a good anthropologist. See below:

Stick to Dark Souls, loser.
They're the ones who are always claiming to be BIG FANS of the series, and how they are always respecting the DNA that made Thief great. Don't go around pimping your shit if you can't back it up.
Sad that you're, for lack of better term, siding with EM. If think you'll see, when Thief comes out, it's going to make Bioshock Infinite look like mother *&()%#* GOTY. I hope I'm wrong.
Hahahahahahaha. Siding with EM? What the hell? I'm not "siding" with anyone. I'm kind of impressed you actually had the balls to trot that "with us or against us" gawbage out again -- I suggest you lose the tinfoil hat or at least stop wearing it whenever someone uses the microwave. I'm not too interested in the new game, though I'm sure it'll be better than Bioshock Infinite because it's hard to be more abysmally dire than
that turgid wash. But if I'm being perfectly honest, I may never even actually play the original Thief games anymore, because you Naruto-esque fanchildren have ruined it for me. It's pretty bad when I meant to say "Thief" to someone today and said "Thiefgen" instead -- that's right, I can't separate the two anymore, and it's all the fault of the autism ward, good job.
The part that really gets me though is the completely cringe-worthy standard for what goes for humour around here. If it's some poorly photoshopped parody of the Thief boxart, or calling the new Garrett design a gay hooker, you're all laughing it up like it's the funniest thing since little Jimmy puked at recess. But actually poking fun at the community, or whatever the community deems sacrosanct, and it's all stone faces up in here. Especially you, Brethen, anyone makes fun of Thiefgen and you
LEAP TO THE DEFENSE, even if it's in GenGaming where we make fun of everything. Thiefgen has a reputation for a reason, if you can't take a bit of ribbing y'all need to get off the internet and take up knitting and adopting cats and watching daytime TV and writing letters by hand to the newspaper complaining about the deadly effects on children of sarcasm in the comic strips.

Regarding the Mash X loading QTEs. EM mentioned that they previously had the same animation without any button prompts, and focus testing feedback had players saying "why do I have to watch this first-person cutscene everytime?". So they added the button prompts to imply that you were actually doing something.
Conclusion: a lot of people are idiots.

@dethtoll - I don't get it - you have such disdain for everyone who posts over here, you constantly insult everyone who's a Thief fan, and oh, on top of it all, we've (sob) ruined Thief for you. Forever. Tinfoil hats. Autism ward. Blah blah blah. And we have no sense of humor. And thin skin. And to top it off, you have no interest in the new game.
Yet you keep coming back and posting.

I just can't really muster up the ability to care about Thief anymore. I mean, why would I? My tastes have shifted elsewhere, I think.

... and for what it's worth, I'd love to take a peek into Goldmoon Dawn's diary to see how many hookers he's filleted lately.
Seriously, and keep in mind that this is coming from me, you scare worry me.
