Funny how the
moderators in the Eidos forums who are in charge of collecting the previews for Thief in the first page of one of the threads, are just happening to forget to add the PCgamer preview there. When someone eventually reminds them of that on the thread itself, that user will be banned, and just in case someone actually read their post, they will add the link. But accidentally in the bottom of the list, instead of chronologically to the top. And the title won't be there, just a general description of it being a link to a PCgamer preview. And the URL is mysteriously misspelled so that the link won't work. That's what will probably happen.
Woa now this isn't EA we're talking about.

Have you wandered off with the fairies, Platinumoxicity? Love it or loathe it, let's keep the thread focused on the reviews themselves.

Yeah, the video was pretty good until that escape sequence, but the last two minutes or so really are quite cringeworthy. All those fire arrows flying everywhere is just kinda stupid. Hopefully this is just a one-off event and not something that happens all the time in the game.
I recall reading in a German magazine (Gamestar) some months (or years?) ago that this will be at the end of every level. So that of course may have changed (since the guy writing the article said he mentioned something like "Well, if you get caught at the end of every mission it's weird, isn't it"), you should probably prepare for the worst.
Also the (
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/01/24/thief-the-hardcore-options-of-infiltration) IGN Preview starts with "Garrett is a terrible thief. Invariably, each of his big jobs ends with the “Master Thief” getting caught red-handed".
That said, I personally will be able to survive 2mins of escaping at the end of every mission after sneaking & ghosting for 40+mins (hoping that most missions take that long).

Man, it's hard to comprehend that they're going to do something like that at the end of every level. I will really miss my low key, quiet mission completions.

The chapters thing was unclear; for example, a bunch of smaller self contained setpieces form the bulk of chapter one. I don't think it's specifically divided into missions.

Did you see more than one of these escape sequences during your play session though? Trying to find out how prevalent they are in the game.
Also, what's going on with (
www.sneakybastards.net?) Seems like it is down often.
ThePhotoshop on 29/1/2014 at 02:39
The first escape sequence isn't as scripted; all that happens is the alarm is forced to go off and then you make your exit past guards who are just by default elevated to a search phase.
The only other escape sequence I saw in the demo was that rooftop one. The other, I played at E3, which was the burning bridge sequence.
Sneaky Bastards is currently down because Kotaku linked to it. We are run out of our back pocket so can't afford really good hosting unfortunately. It'll tick back over soon.

Apparently Eidos Montréal flat-out lied when they said that you could play through the entire game without being seen.
Technically, they're not lying because you don't "play" a cutscene, you watch it.:p
That aside, I do honestly think it's rather ridiculous you are forced to be caught at the end of a mission. And. Every. Single. One.

While I realize you are joking, I do want to point out that if you watch the video carefully, player control is given on and off throughout the escape sequence. So they absolutely lied, and holy hell did they repeat that ghosting is possible over and over again. Game developers really need to be brought to task for this kind of shit, I really despise EM and pretty much everyone in the industry these days for this kind of crap.

They probably don't count it. The game probably goes "grats you ghosted it" once you reach the escape sequence without being seen, but the sequence doesn't count.
