I've been looking through this section of the forums for some help on another issue, and noticed that a lot of players seem to find Liches very difficult opponents.
I'm playing as a Thief/Mage character, and I stumbled on a pretty handy combination for dealing with them provided you have access to 8th level spells (I had this at about 6th level, which was right around the time I needed to start fighting Liches).
Anyway:
Cast Mana Drain followed by Repel Undead, then charge right in and stay close to the Lich. The Repel Undead makes him attempt to flee without attacking you, and the only spell he'll try to cast is Invisibility. The Mana Drain serves two functions: it negates the draw from your Repel Undead spell (as long as you stay close to the Lich so it drains him), and it lights up the Lich like a candle when he tries to go Invisible. Just stay on his tail and chop him into kibbles.
This combo only failed me once, when I foolishly allowed a second Lich to join the fray... for some reason BOTH were unaffected once the second one arrived.
Hope this reduces the frustration for a few people.
