Right, so I'm thinknig of buying STALKER (Without dots) seeings as I get £20 free from Play. But first before I do buy, I want to make sure my PC is up to standards, and in hope it can cope with the game.
Currently my Specs are:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ (2.4GHz)
2GB DDR3 RAM
Creative Sound Blaster Sound Card (5.1)
nVidia GeForce 6600GT 256mb
I'm guessing my PC should be able to cope with the game, at least marginally, but I'm concerned about the graphics card. I feel it's time to upgrade.
Any ideas? :p

Do you really have DDR3 RAM, or is that a typo?
Your spec looked fine until I saw the 6600, get a geforce 8 or something, depending on how much money you have to burn...

Yes it was a typo. I meant DDR2.
I've got up to £100 to burn, maybe £130. I've just started re-fitting my apartment so I'm a little strapped for cash.

If that AMD64 of yours is socket 939, then DDR2 is also a typo.
But I suggest a video card in the 7000 series, assuming you have an AGP slot since as far as I know the 8000 range is only for PCIx.

Don't know how about dynamic lighting mode, but you should be able to play with high graphics options in static lighting mode. I do with P2.4, R9800Pro and 1.5 RAM. The game surely looks much better in DLM, but it's good in SLM too thanks to great detailness of architecture.

My memory (no pun intended) is not the best (Seeing as I've had this PC for a while now) but I'm sure it was DDR2, probably mistaken)
My motherboard has 2 PCI slots, so should allow for one. I was looking at the 7 series on a few sites. Read some good reviews on some of the cards, so should be a good choice.
Any ideas regarding ATi cards?

You can get a Radeon X1950 Pro DDR 512mb for about £130.
It's on of the fastest AGP cards on the market.

Only 2 PCI slots? I'd expect a lot more considering how much hardware uses them. So I assume you mean PCI-Express?
By the way, if you bought your processor before the AM2 socket launched, then there is no chance you have DDR2.

Yes two PCI-express slots. I was quite surprised at the number of them too, but I bought the motherboard for £35, so I would expect maye a few shavings.
And you're probably right, I'll check the box later fo the defintie slots. Need to buy a new memory stick anyway due to one of my current ones overheating quickly. :o
:edit: There you go, 'DDR II SDRAM'.

If your current card is PCI-e then that gives you a lot of scope for upgrading. You may very well want to consider getting a geforce 8, since a lot of cheaper models have been released now.
