a couple questions... - by steppin' razor

ok, more than a couple...
just 'cause i'm curious, does it make a difference what kind of clothes your character wears (ie. common vs. expensive)?
i've been browsing through the forums here and noticed a couple threads about 'where your house is' and 'where do you store your stuff'. are there places you can and cannot store things (i've got a lot of stuff i don't want to carry around, but i'd like to keep for a rainy day), and what do you mean, 'your house' (i'm sick of sleeping under trees and things)?
also, i've lost my little instruction booklet, and there's a lot i don't get yet in this game. is there any kind of compendium anywhere that would give me all the info i need/want, for example, exactly what matze and flin and all those other potions (sp?) do to me, and what 'recall on self for 20 sec', or whatever, really means?
oh, and if i dropped a bunch of moonsugar and skooma on the floor of some merchant, then leave the city and come back again several days later, would the stuff i dropped still be there, or would it disappear? 'cause i dropped some in Balmora somewhere and now i can't find it again...
thanks muchly,

If you have a lot of Exquisite items, you'll get NPC reactions like "I haven't seen a {YOUR RACE} dressed so well in quite some time." Don't know whether or not that translates into a change in default disposition, though. The main thing is this: when you get around to enchanting your clothes (pants, shirts, robes, rings, amulets, etc.), Exquisite items can always hold more than Common items.

A lot of people use plugins to get their very own house. I myself use "A Good Place to Stay," which rules. But a lot of other people simply take over a house (typically by killing all the NPCs living there). Popular ones seem to be Hllevu Manor in Balmora, Dren Plantation, the Council Club in Balmora, one of the old Indoril forts (which become very rapidly accessible after obtaining the Mastery Propolyn Index from an official BethSoft plugin) and others.
About storing your stuff - if you put your stuff INTO anything (a chest, a box, etc.), there is a chance that it will disappear. Some storage containers randomize their contents when you enter that cell, and if they refresh, your nice stuff is gone. A better option, if you don't have a downloaded house plugin, is simply to leave it on the ground. Some people like to use Creeper's house in Caldera makes a nice place to keep stuff, because of the proximity to selling.

The (
http://www.uesp.net) Unofficial Elder Scrolls Page is probably the most exhaustive single resource online for Morrowind. The Search function seems to have been broken for several months, but by poking around, you can find answers to almost any question. There used to be a great site for game instruction booklets called (
http://www.replacementdocs.com) Replacement Docs, but it seems to have vanished.

It should still be there. I think. Do the interiors of buildings refresh your goodies out of existance? Someone smarter than me is sure to come along and give a definitive answer.

As far as I know, the interiors of buildings should never refresh itself unless you manage to do it through the console (if that's possible.) I've had various house plugins, as well as taken over quite a few in my other games. I've never once had something disappear from either the ground or from inside a container. I dropped a sword in the town square of Balmora weeks ago, and it's still there. I really wouldn't worry about it, and if you it does manage to disappear then use the console. It's not really cheating if your item disappeared because of a (potential?) glitch.
I am off to seek my fortune in food and sleep. I'm hungry. *yawns*

That'll teach you to leave mind-altering drugs lying around where anyone could get at them.... :sly:
Seriously, I'll repeat what was said above-drop anything on the floor, and it should remain there indefinitely. Put it into a container, and it could disappear after a while. If memory serves, containers that are empty when you first come across them SHOULD be safe-containers that already have stuff in them are supposed to refresh themselves every so often, reverting to their original contents and hence wiping out anything you may have put in there. Best to be careful and avoid those ones.
Have fun!

i have the tribunal and blood moon expansion and nothing seems to refresh.... cuz i dropped a corpus thing bout months ago and its still there on the floor, i had to make it into some evil potion and then took it so it wouldnt look bad on the floor, also, in mournhold i took the evil wizard house and made it mine, things also stay the same, the shelves are full of my books, and the chests of my weapons, and the closet of my ingredients, and everything stays exactly the same, i even have the guy that is for hire inside of my house if i ever need to use him (in a matter of speaking that doesnt involves sick stuff), oh and also, something weird is that if i take something i placed before and that guys sees me, he always shouts grab him! but does nothing, anyway, the thing is in my opinino everything stays the same (oh i also left a skooma over the table of a store and its always there.

One caution about using empty container: some may have ownership assigned to them, and anything that you place in them will thereafter be considered. (by the game engine), the property of that owner. It isn’t necessarily a problem, but it can lead to unexpected complications if you attempt to sell any of the items later. I was storing ingredients into an empty basket or urn in front of the Mages Guild in Ald-ruhn, and couldn’t figure out why the membership of every Mages Guild in Vvardenfell, accused and attacked me when I attempted to sell some ingredients that I know I acquired legitimately. I’m sorry if I frightened anybody with the account of my ordeal. I believe if you toggle full help (tfh) at the console, you can check the ownership of containers in the game.
