You are very close to being a racist.
Firstly, German isn't a race, no matter what the Aryan supremacists say.
Secondly, I'm being deliberately antagonised here just because I support the use of war. People are trying their hardest to get a negative reaction out of me in this thread, and to my discredit, they've largely succeeded. Well done, you prodded a dog with a stick and he bit you.
War can be a great and beautiful thing. Which is why I have no truck with pacifists, people who are ideologically opposed to the use of war in all circumstances. It disappoints me to see some people are pacifists when they know from experience that war can be a good thing. THAT IS ALL.
Now I am voluntarily taking a break from these forums until everyone calms down.

why was I even born in the first place
Fixed.
My (maternal) grandmother was too busy fleeing the Russian soldiers, then the bombing of Dresden, and then US soldiers while dragging the four youngest of her children with her to worry about gassing other people. My grandfather (also maternal) spent nearly the entire war in a Russian concentration camp because he was Burgermeister of their small village (he had all the priests, nuns, teachers and other village officials from his village to keep him company there - til they started to die of starvation). Just an FYI.

My guess it that people who have never had to confront the painful reality that they could have been murdered simply for who they are are less likely to get it.
My parents/grandparents have done just that. And they've passed down their memories (horrible as they are and from the viewpoint of both 'sides') of the war to us and made damn sure we
DID get the fucking point.

No offense Stronts, but I think the part of your brain that's missing must have been the part that dribbled down your daddy's leg.

Ok Strodo, it's everyone else's fault you're unable to prevent your hands from mashing the keyboard. Gotcha! :thumb:

I suppose you think 'Paki' isn't a racist term either then.

No, never. What is great and beautiful about people killing each other?

There are two ways of looking at it. I think what you mean is: If I'm attacked, I'll bloody well defend myself. I think most people would agree with that. But there's also the angle which says: It is better not to attack others in the first place. That's a conclusion many Germans have reached.

War will always be necessary because people will always be assholes. It's nice to utter trite, hackneyed phrases like "make love, not war" but deep down nobody can seriously believe that shit - especially those people from countries who elected odious regimes that could only be removed by war.
Deep down not everyone is a cynic. And while I do acknowledge that a situation may arise where war is necessary this is much less often the case than people with aggressive agendas like to claim.
"War will always be necessary because people will always be assholes." could justify any war, it could have served for Germany's wars too.
As a German I could never accept or adapt such a view. This is a logical consequence of this country's past: To be extremely cautious when people praise war as means of solving problems.

Paki means "pure" or "clean" in Urdu. As "racial slurs" go, it's probably one of the most positive ones I've ever heard of. What is ignorant and offensive about it is probably when people use the term Paki to refer to generic South Asians, lumping Bangladeshis, Indians, etc. Sure as hell the Pakis don't care for that.
What's great and beautiful about war is the explosions and the fire and the loud noises and then everyone goes home and has a cup of tea and reminisces fondly about all the explosions and fire and loud noises and what jolly fun it was. He didn't say "killing people is great and beautiful", you strawmanned that one nicely.
Actually, turning off the sarcasm for a second, there is an awful lot to be said for chaos and conflict and destruction. Probably exactly as much as there is to be said for order, harmony, and construction... and that end of the spectrum isn't free of crap, either, what with things like inflexible routine, stagnation, and complacency.

But
huuh, WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?

Is love the cause of the verbal war here?

Frankly my dears, WWII was worth fighting. Perhaps it should have been avoided in the first place, sure it was an utterly utterly senseless waste of life and purpose and human endeavor, history rightly remembers it as a shame on humanity and for certain there were far more losers than winners, but by fuck if those circumstances repeated themselves I'd shed my normally die-hard pacifist skin and volunteer. Which is all rather moot, seeing as I don't have to; however there is some token unswerving appreciation implied for those that did have to shed their normally die-hard pacifist skins and volunteer.
