"love is a cause of war" amounts to the same thing as "war is necessary to preserve the freedom to love"
And secondly, cheap shot or not, I was offended that you can sit there and tell us all what a terrible thing war is when you more than anyone should understand how necessary it is.
This is my final post on the matter as I have no wish to get into a debate over such a stupid thing.
You're starting to sound like a neocon these days.

Yes, I'd been thinking that too lately. :weird:

As others have already pointed out, that picture is totally euro-centric.

I think you've missed a vital point that this illustration makes, whether intentional or not: love is a cause of war (and one could argue, the only cause?).
I'd say greed and fear, actually.

As a (half) german I know how utterly
unnecessary war can be.
If someone asks "Do you want total war" you should scream "NO".

It's pretty neat. Anybody know who the artist is, and where it came from?
Milo Manara.

Oh please. Because I say war is sometimes a necessity I'm a neocon? Or are you basing this on something else? Perhaps I inadvertently advocated nuking Iran in another thread, or maybe I accidentally stated somewhere that we should ban all Muslim immigration?
War will always be necessary because people will always be assholes. It's nice to utter trite, hackneyed phrases like "make love, not war" but deep down nobody can seriously believe that shit - especially those people from countries who elected odious regimes that could only be removed by war. That doesn't make me a neocon, just a realist.

Well it seems quite clear to me that war is sometimes needed to deal with crazy aggressors. However that's not mutually exclusive with the sentiment "war is a terrible thing".

I'm not sure about that. A leader of a tribe could be driven to war by passionate desires that go beyond any freedoms we might say a member of society is entitled to. Like, I dunno, love for another king's wife. Or desire for his land.
But it would be helpful if aguy could clarify on that point.

The picture looks more like its saying; rape and murder is the engine of culture, but check out the threads you can get!
