In regards to Kuwait and Iraq: the major oil corporations would disagree with you on the positive outcome of war in those countries.

Yeah, nations don't lead offensive wars, their elites do.

The influence that war profiteering private businesses have on our governments is certainly worth investigating, no doubt about that.

I think once you start doing war it's rather hard to stop; tangled webs and all that. Though I agree entirely with Zacc; war is a catastrophic failure in foreign relations, war is categorically bad. I'm not glad that WWII happened, though I am rather appreciative of the people that took part in it (except the Italians - loosers).
-edit-
On second thoughts, I think what I meant to say was that once you start doing bad foreign policy it's hard to stop.

In any case, it's my opinion those who accept war as an inevitable part of human life can see the savage beauty and irony in combat, while people who think that war can be halted forever (you're an
naive idiot if you think that) are embroiled in the horror of it.
I thought I should just quote this again for emphasis.
IE - WHAT THE FUCK???
It's my opinion that those who decide to put the blinds on and call things impractical and naive, are in fact the ones who create the conditions which make these things impractical in the first place. Sadly, you're right and it is inevitable. It's like paranoia - either every last person stops being an idiot and does what's in their best interest, or else everyone is forced to think along the lines of the above statement in order to compete.
Good point about the nukes thing.

I'd say that war is categorically bad, but it's not necessarily the worst - there may be situations where it is the lesser evil. I don't think we should ever become complacent, cynical or (in a different way) naive enough to think that going to war is an unequivocally Good Thing(tm). It was necessary to stop Hitler, and a diplomacy-only option may very well have led to the complete annihilation of all European Jews. However, even the Good War is a horrible, horrible thing.
And as far as the great and terrible beauty of war is concerned... There's probably also potential aesthetic pleasure in fascism. Terrible things can be beautiful. I don't think you're automatically a reprehensible person for acknowledging and even appreciating this aesthetic potential. As soon as you get a hard-on for it, though, I think you do need to have your head examined.

I admittedly only skimmed this thread, but I think Strontz was referring to the result of war as opposed to the spectacle of it.
This is pretty much right, although Jonesy was bang on with the rest of it, (and now that he mentions it guns and explosions
are cool).
I also have to apologise for ranting about Nazi Germany again. It's an emotive subject for me; combined with the fact that a load of pacifists had annoyed me elsewhere, I'd just been watching
Schindler's List, and that this was the third anniversary of a weekend I'd rather just forget, I wasn't in the most reasonable of moods, as you might well have noticed. So sorry.

Warthog driver?
Yes. Never got through final training due to medical issues (read: hit by a drunk driver) and got discharged soon after. I fly charters now.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen you apologize before, Stronts - though then again my memory has been going down the tubes as of late so perhaps I just don't remember. Either way, kudos to you.

Anybody else enjoys to admire the amazing details of that picture with magnifying lenses?
Why, you like masturbating to a reddish pink pixel, too?
