Stella is my bête noire - every time student Matthew made an arse of himself, Stella was generally involved in large quantities.

We call it Stella's Old Twat.
You always put things so elegantly, pav. :laff:

It tended to make me uncontrollably depressed and then vomit, but horses for courses! :p

Kirin Ichiban, but only really cold and only in a big cup for much foamness. And hopefully next to a plate of sushi.

Awww you guys gotta be joking me!! Stella for the win! Of course I say that as someone still in adolensce. Although that 5.2% goes down easy when with the lads and ready for a night on the 'tear.'
Anyone had a polish beer called Tyskie?

Above all, have fun. Don't listen to the "why bother if you don't like it" crowd, as expanding one's horizons--beer or otherwise--is just part of the adventure for those who really live.
Best advice so far. You are a man among ladies, Stitch.

Yeah,
Kirin is another "hometown" beer for me that I really like (especially Ichiban), since it started out of Nagasaki (where I taught English) ... and was started by a famous American living there, which is nice so that Nagasaki isn't known for just one (rather depressing) connection to the US.

Some stores let you pick mixed six packs which can be helpful if you're still trying new things and don't want to get a whole six of something when you don't know if you hate it or love it. Brewpubs usually have samplers of 4-5 4oz glasses of different beers. Also if you find the RIGHT brewpub and tell them you're a total newbie but would like to get into beer they'll probably be able to help you find something you're going to like. And the servers are often hot. And even if you hate the beer and the servers aren't hot there's still a good chance you'll at least eat some decent onion rings or something.

Yeah, some friends and I went to Krakow for a long weekend and had some there and it's served in my local, funnily enough. I'm fairly sure there are better Polish beers but it's drinkable, and I don't much like that kind of beer. I drink (hard) decent cider (for americans) or ales mostly

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is a great beer for beginners and aficionados alike. It can be found pretty much anywhere these days stateside.
